Avian Conservation and Evolutionary Researcher | University of Queensland | #Shorebird conservation along East Asia-Australasia Flyway 🐦

Broadly interested in avian conservation & genomics; previously worked on Antarctic seabirds & Tropical passerines
Why are Procellariiform seabirds most diverse in the Southern Hemisphere?

Our study found that wind patterns and time since evolutionary origin best explain the extratropical peak in breeding species richness of these remarkable seabirds. 🐦💨

Found this Australasian Gannet on Squeaky beach in late July, but regretfully did not check its ABBBS band.

Turns out its 33 years old since it was banded as a chick at Pope's Eye, Port Phillip.

With many thanks to Stephen Powell for getting the ABBBS and tracing the records.
