Mistress of Public Policy

I am renowned for my rational exuberance.
Bought a pre-marinated turkey breast from a local butcher shop. It was the last one they had, so I didn’t ask any questions. Only later did I realize that it had been marinated in soy milk, to which I am allergic. Unpleasant aftermath. Sigh. So much for leftover turkey sandwiches.

Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

Senators,

Please review this article. Is there a way that you can force ICE agents to take proper training about what IDs are acceptable, who they are allowed to stop, and the proper way to ask for ID? Thank you. Mike Krieg
Just a few miles from my home, in Redmond, WA, ICE detained folks yesterday. One of the women questioned was Indigenous actor Elaine Miles, known for her role in "Northern Exposure." ICE called her tribal ID ‘fake’. WTF! She's NATIVE AMERICAN you fuck'n idiots!

One of the biggest barriers to implementing pro-housing policy is the folk wisdom that building new market rate/mixed-income housing increases rents even though study after study shows that the opposite is the case:

building more housing lowers rents
Interesting new working paper that studies chains of movers after the construction of a new apartment building in Honolulu.

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

I’ve been reading Color of Law this long weekend. Down zoning is often a polite term for white zoning
What happens when you downzone?

Our new open-access research paper in @findingspress.org investigates effects of decades of downzoning in Chicago.

Findings:
—Downzoned areas added 1/7th of the new units as comparable non-downzoned areas;
—Downzoned areas became more white & were more expensive.
