I think the disconnect in this convo comes from normative enforcement vs legal enforcement. Nothing really stopped US presidents after Nixon from engaging in Nixon-esque corruption in law, standards were normatively enforced. Now that there’s no standards, there’s no gate on corruption.

I wish I didn’t believe that my enemies were literally, actually evil but the fact this realignment is occurring makes it very difficult not to given the facts on the ground. At least the people with a microphone must be at least a bit evil to function within the right wing ecosystem.

A lot of people here talked shit about America’s protest culture in the early months of the regime, but tbh I’m mostly seeing green chutes. No Kings is a dress rehearsal for 2026 when they will almost certainly refuse to seat Congress and the dedicated activists learned a lot about optics from 2020.
