This is something I wish all candidates/parties realized. Give me a candidate that's in the community, working away when not in office. When I ask you what's different from your opponent - don't give me the party line, I want that charitable and progressive resume
7/ Meanwhile, Farkas learned the lesson and worked the problem, ultimately winning from the centre rather than the right from which he started. His work (charitable & professional) since 2021 broadened horizons and sanded off rough edges. Being 'mayoral' became a discipline for him, to his credit.
I've been watching the "greatest" 1000 films of all time, in chronological order using the list compiled by @top10ner.bsky.social and my god, do not watch THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC while stoned. I was unprepared for that oratorio score.
Our CEO was previously with Cleveland, I'm sure we'll start to see more in future seasons. Last year they did a wonderful collab with their youth symphonies in both cities.
Didn't they just announce an officer increase and bail "reform"?

Some pretty mixed federal messaging this week.
The Government of Canada wants you to narc on the feral hogs

I've got a full chapter in my when-will-I-finish-it-book on LaGuardia. The BS version is he was a city socialist who built a huge city govt. The reality: he reprioritized, redirected wasted $ and used outside capital to get far better outcomes from a very modest increase in NYC opex $ per capita. /1
Zohran Mamdani “is far more interested in the practical task of being a successful mayor than in the impossible dream of turning a single city into a socialist paradise — or, as his critics would see it, a nightmare,” E.J. Dionne Jr. writes.
Opinion | The Sewer Socialism of Zohran Mamdani
The way to advance his worldview, he argues, is to show that it works.

We could probably triple the city's operating budget if we had automated cameras ticketing this. It's awful and it's usually paired with another car in front of it that took the late turn on the red.
🚦 Blocking the box = danger for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. It causes delays, disrupts transit, and creates unsafe conditions.
Wait until the road ahead is clear. Keep everyone safe and avoid unnecessary fines!

Good to note which candidates opt-in to the Municipal Contribution Rebate program! I got most of my Mayoral race donation back.
A left that wants to actually govern with left policy.
800,000 people are out of work — and what’s their Premier doing? Eating ice cream, pouring out liquor for the cameras, and playing Batman, bragging that he wanted to beat someone up at Home Depot.

What will it take for him to stop chasing the stunts and the theatre? A million people unemployed?
At the very least there should be an online review every 5 years. Refresh some concepts, introduce changes to previous laws etc. Demerit points could increase the amount of refresh training required
Remember that @diannesaxe.bsky.social "community" was a bunch of rich people who owned business and AI slop.
"There's no question that dedicated bus lanes would be better for transit, but they would have wiped out all parking 24/7 on both sides of the street. And my community has asked me to try something smaller first. And if it doesn't work, we'll be back," says Saxe.
Waste of money. We laugh every time we see them get stepped over.
Deputy Mayor Malik moves to have staff consult with local councillors on places to install more sidewalk decals that remind people not to ride scooters and bikes on sidewalks.
We should be questioning the value of rent-a-cop security walking around with the yellow safety vests. Usually watching a show on their phone or chatting in a group. Could move money from there to start.
Myers, the TTC chair, asks Bradford where the TTC should reallocate funds to pay for more special constables.

"I'm not on the TTC," Bradford says. "So I've asked the TTC to look at that."

Myers says the TTC is facing a $90 million budget shortfall.

"It's about prioritization," Bradford says.
There are ways to enjoy HP without giving $ to JK Rowling. Being ignorant of the fact that she stated she specifically uses licensing revenue to fund anti-trans bills and hate is a dangerous slope for a lot of progressives.

At some point we need to move on from good things that are now bad.
This one got me today. When did they announce a water feature with 1000 dancing fountains?
The gondola at the San Diego Zoo is well worth the extra couple bucks. If they are eventually going to extend the subway to Morningside, having a seasonal gondola pickup would be a great transit option.
Saw a paramedic block the bike lane at Yonge and Bloor last week while responding to a moped driver being hit by a car.

Nervous watching all the bikes having to ride on the road and really hammered home the need for fundamental modernization changes in the training of all public servants.
Find the email or text complaining about them. Otherwise it's 23 tickets amongst millions.
Truly incredible stuff. It seems like common sense but so much work to make it happen!
I was the Planner for this file, working with a great team. Positive results after only 1 year of occupancy. Particularly pleased to see the reference to the vegetable garden as part of healing. One of the challenges was ensuring reasonable amenity space for residents.

🤘🏼I wrote about sweating the small stuff. The city parks dept answered city council’s request to look into destructive practices w a shrug. That’s not good enough. Total park reform is needed & needs to be an election platform. If Chow passes on it, someone else surely will. Pls read & share. 🙏🏼🤘🏼
Shawn Micallef: How Toronto can take a lesson from Van Halen, and learn to sweat the small stuff
Anybody who travels this city knows large vehicles are routinely in parks. It’s disrespectful to Torontonians, a scandalous waste of money, and intrusive to those trying to enjoy the outdoor

Can understand why these are ignored. Somewhere like Bloor W. where the infrastructure changes every block, you are looking everywhere to maintain any concept of safe driving.

Bloor and Bedford is a great example of too much signage with the new bike lane signaling (which itself is great).
