We know Toronto is growing. As we grow, we need new public facilities and services, so that affordable housing, libraries, childcare, community and cultural spaces and public art options are available and easily accessible.

This ambulance *zoomed*, unimpeded, down the “red carpet” on Bathurst today. Good to see.
There can be benefits of transit priority that extend beyond transit.

Let’s talk about the size of trucks & SUVs in the city. My column on the virtue & status signalling of vehicle bloat.
Shawn Micallef: This truck ad shows why Toronto needs smaller vehicles — if only the carmakers wanted to sell them
A car comically overloaded with plywood? It’s a good ad for a pickup — but also a sign of the incredible amount of money, weight and energy being wasted on

You might find this interesting, which I put together 10 (!!) years ago as part of the prep work to plan for the LRT. Excited the LRT is about to open! Many land us changes adopted at Council. Your nolli diagrams made me think of it.

Is it too early to think about spring gardening? Not in my opinion. This resource will help those of you in or near Toronto in identifying native plants that suit the conditions you have. Answer a few quick, simple questions, and a list of suitable plants is provided.

Just passed thru Exhibition Place & it’s rammed. They’re parking people on the grass (🤦🏽). Royal winter fair. Soccer game at BMO. The notion that the Ex is used two weeks a year is false.

Delicious & cozy weekend morning breakfast sandwich, thanks to some neighbourhood retail. The sandwich was huge! Is it symbolic that I have to loosen my belt…?

I’m going to make an end-of-year update to my Canada intercity transportation map by the end of November. Let me know what bus and rail services I’m missing or changes I should be aware of.

It’s a big country and I’ll probably miss something.

Ever wonder about the architect behind Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto (70s render pictured), Robson Square or Simon Fraser in Vancouver, the Canadian Embassy in Washington…?
I have. Really fascinating documentary about Arthur Erickson “Beauty Between the Lines” screened last night at TMU. Recommended.

We remember.
Sometimes I make mistakes & find myself in a grocery store at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year. Yet an announcement was made, people stopped moving, & fell silent. Quite moving that it happens everywhere.

Confederation Station opened today!
For the first time in my life, there is a train station in reasonable distance to where I grew up (Stoney Creek, Ontario). Connecting to Toronto, Niagara Falls, places in between & beyond. Good news!
