Alabamians, do you have to verify you’re an adult i’on BiueSky to get your DMs, or does my phone think I’m still in Mississippi!?

Since we’re talking about books and money, I’ll also talk specifically to new occult authors, because I watch new people go through this every single season: your first book might change your life, but almost surely not in the way you think.

Y’all. It’s been a day. I’m halfway home. Learned the hard way about some hotels not accepting Chime or CashApp cards (but got it worked out). A lot of my future is up in the air tonight but the good news is that I have a future. Going to keep working on this grant app and Yale app. Good will come.

Don’t let people make you feel bad about taking meds. M cholesterol went down 30 points in 30 days after going back in atorvastatin. All my numbers are well within range now. No personal changes I made helped enough.

I live in the heart of Cajun country. And when well-meaning people find out I can’t eat onions (or onion powder even) without getting ill — and that I need to avoid garlic as much as possible as well — they freak out. Because here they have “the trinity,” which is mirepoix (onion, carrot, celery)

This Must Be the Place: Home in Ang Lee’s 'The Ice Storm
While The Ice Storm certainly explores the ins and outs of marital strife, of sibling rivalry, of that fragile and ever-changing bond between parent and child, it never feels like it’s passing…

I really knocked yesterday’s to-do list out of the park but today has been — well I only did stuff I wanted to, I guess. A little writing, watched a little tv, cooked a lunch that carried me through dinner, had my first visit from someone not my partner, took a long, late nap.

I know DROP DEAD GORGEOUS has its problems but one thing it gets right is the portrayal of the creepy pageant judge by Matt Malloy. His behavior is obviously and everyone just ignores it while he continues operating as a trusted community member.

I was always the cook, and my partner and his late wife were definitely not. Now I get invited to his huge cousins gathering out in the country and I’m just expected to bring ice, rolls, and tea. I miss the old days with my (now grown) kids but it’s nice to just show up and then leave.
Actually in the spirit of this conversation, what’s a decision you made about a past Thanksgiving holiday that really paid off? I think people often feel trapped by their lives. Sharing our experiences can liberate us from that sense of claustrophobia.
On the most recent episode of VIBE CHECK, we answer listener questions about Thanksgiving, most importantly “do you go celebrate with the family members you don’t even like?”
