I’m an adherent of the Block and Go philosophy of Bluesky. The thing is I don’t need rude people in my timeline and my life is better with them gone. Don’t be a dick.

Trump should do this. You could totally build out the infrastructure to host the Olympics in a random Confederate city in three years. Same for the World Cup matches.

Totally easy to do. Cheap as hell too.

(Three years is not enough time to build out the Olympics infrastructure.)
Trump threatens removal of World Cup games from Boston, Olympics from LA
Blaming Boston street takeovers and LA wildfires, the US president said both global sporting events could be moved for supposed safety reasons

This is yet another reminder that the "you can just walk around with your papers and be fine!" is a lie: the cops routinely claim whatever documentation you provide is invalid

It's racism all the way down

"During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she 'doesn’t look like' a Greeley."

www.yahoo.com/news/article...
Chicago Tribune: Greeley, who was born at Illinois Masonic hospital and is adopted, carries a copy of her passport just in case she runs into federal agents.

“I am Latina and I am a service worker,” Greeley said. “I fit the description of what they’re looking for now.”

During the encounter, Greeley said they told her she “doesn’t look like” a Greeley.

“They said this isn’t real, they kept telling me I’m lying, I’m a liar,” Greeley recalled. “I told them to look in the rest of my wallet, I have my credit cards, my insurance.”

Sam Altman went from “AI will cure cancer" to "ChatGPT porn" in less than a month
ChatGPT boss predicts when AI could cure cancer We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Sir, I’ve known a few union executives and I can say without doubt you are absolutely correct.

The Young Republicans have always been creepy weirdos.
originalsp.in
Thousands of posts from a private Young Republican Telegram chat reveal a culture of casual racism/antisemitism, rape jokes and celebration of Hitler/Nazism.

Some of the ringleaders are below: We live in a world where 4chan types now occupy positions of real power.

I seem to recall that it was the biggest 1st Amendment attack in American history when the Biden admin alerted social media companies to some content and said "hey does this violate your policies?" Will Matt Taibbi, Michael Shellenberger and (lol) CBS News Editor in Chief Bari Weiss call this out?
Tweet from Pam Bondi:

Today following outreach from
@thejusticedept
, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target
@ICEgov
 agents in Chicago.

The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

honestly no one should have that much money, “can you sue someone for fun just to ruin their life” should be the marker on having too much money

Once again, that damn dumb Noem video and everything like it ignores a basic law of politics: people think the President of the United States is a magician and can do whatever he wants when he wants. If he says Democrats caused the shutdown, well by God do something about it.

Once again. Tariffs are a sales tax on imported goods. They are paid by the importer and passed to customers as part of the cost of goods sold.

Trump’s tariffs are also illegal at least until Republican SCOTUS decides laws don‘t matter anymore.
U.S. consumers bearing more than half the cost of tariffs so far, Goldman Sachs says
The findings suggest U.S. consumers will continue to struggle with high prices — something Trump had promised to address in the run-up to his re-election.

It is impossible to balance the Federal budget with spend cuts alone. The math doesn’t work. You have to have tax increases. If we go back to the 1990s tax rates we’ll be fine.
Americans Favor Spending Cuts Over More Taxes to Cut Deficit
Americans favor spending cuts over tax hikes to reduce the deficit, although a majority of U.S. adults support taxing the wealthy to raise revenue.

If the Gaza cease fire holds it is likely Trump gets the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. But there is a lot that can go wrong before then. Hamas and Netanyahu have had and broken other cease fires over the last two years.
Trump’s inevitable Nobel
One of Trump’s core political insights has always been to see through institutions to the individuals who run them. Will the Nobel Institute be next?

I’ve seen some accuse those who protested for a ceasefire as being disingenuous by not celebrating this one so for @forward.com I wrote about the difference between relief and joy and what the ceasefire can’t do

forward.com/opinion/7754...
I know exactly why leftists aren't celebrating this ceasefire
Why not celebrate the ceasefire? Because, while it's a relief, it won't undo all the suffering and death of the past two years.
