I absolutely abhor people who go 'Well youtube uses ai to process videos and your video editing software uses AI to render. So you use it too haha'

Like dude, thats not what people are mad at. Its the hurt these image scrapers put on people and the planet.

Its the theft they do from real artists.

There is no legitimate reason to be using it, it is not a “necessary evil” piece of technology that you need in any sort of way.

I almost feel bad that my answer is 'Indigo Prophecy', aka 'Fahrenheit', because I know there are a lot of people who go to bat for that creator.
But I just couldn't stand it. It's the only game that can make a kung fu fight with a Mayan priest on top of a flying saucer feel boring.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.
Rather than a spiritual successor, this one's an *actual* successor to the HoMM series! And I was enough of the fan of the old ones that this sucked me in for HOURS.
It's the game I remember, with a few changes that fit right in with the gameplay style.
