I am seeing some AI-generated Liberal boomer memes in my feed and I’m feeling guilty about blocking those users.

But not too guilty! I don’t care if you’re a 70-year-old Facebook grandma: don’t use the tools of the fucking enemy.

They're not trying to get you hooked, they're banking on the NEXT generation getting hooked, or being born into a world where they don't know any different. AI is a long-term gamble.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

This cross-pollination IS how new ideas happen. EVERY field needs humanistic thinking, that's why they call PhDs "Doctors of Philosophy"
Alt text for those who need it. This is amazing.

Feels awkward to care publicly about things but I am trying, so here comes #Hindicember again. Day 1 is EK THA TIGER, which I haven't seen since it came out but I bought for like four bucks on an iTunes sale. (A lot of this year's selections come from those kinds of sales.) I hope it's still fun!

#MusicAdvent Day 1: A is for Afro-Cuban All Stars. "Pío Mentiroso" always gets my head bobbing and my toe tapping.

Lots of wonderful and unexpected #MusicAdvent entries came through today, which was a fun surprise! I'm excited to catch up with as many of them as I can tomorrow, looks like I'm in for a good keyboard work playlist.

Due to how time works, "tomorrow" means today! Right now even!
Hi! Hello! #MusicAdvent starts tomorrow, which all about sharing songs with your social media friends. This year's no-pressure, low-stress theme, is: Alphabetical Order By Band Name. You can go ABBA, Bach, CCR or you can go Apples in Stereo, Beastie Boys, Sabrina Carpenter. Or a secret third way!

When the two-part miniseries Anne of Green Gables debuted on CBC on Dec. 1, 1985, nearly six million Canadians tuned in. It went on to win 10 Geminis, an Emmy and a Peabody.
To this day, the miniseries is studied in film schools.
This is the story of that miniseries.

"Sometimes I worry about a society shaped by superheroes rather than muppets" is a sentence I just found in my book draft.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

Remember, the big argument for AI in the arts is that these “artists” have ideas, hundreds of ideas, thousands, all that was stopping them was the hoards of gatekeeping musicians, writers, illustrators… and not that they were lazy and didn’t want to put in the work.

"Conservative groups, funded by fossil fuel magnates, spend $1B/yr interfering with public understanding of what is happening to our world. Few investments rival the return they've gotten from evangelicals."

An oldie but goodie makes the link between fossil fuels, climate denial, and U.S. religion.

Poor people apparently don’t have enough money for a dollar store box of pencils + sketchbook but they do have money for a Midjourney subscription, apparently.

AI bros already grabbed people with disabilities and children as shields, I guess this was inevitable
“Poor people have a right to art!”

They sure do. So get to it.

I'm always going to look at types like this & feel like Heather Graham in Bowfinger, "They're all aliens worshipping their false gods," & again, WHY DO YOU CARE, you won. You have everything except endless admiration & love & I guess that's the part that's killing you & please, I insist, go die.

Some tech type angry about ayyyy-eiii detractors is the main character today & just, what do you even want from the rest of us? You won. You have a total stranglehold on financial markets. You're eating education, publishing, the arts & the electrical grid alive. You don't get kisses on top of that.
