Well, I think I’m feeling ok with this level of “swears”

@profanity.accountant I’m not sure that I’ll make big numbers here, but it seems you’re pretty broad on what counts as a swear.

Since we missed our traditional day-after-Thanksgiving greening of the house, we’ll be doing that today!

Had a good day at Renaissance Festival today. The morning was crisp but warmed up nicely mid-day.

Now THIS is proper leadership. Wish I had a Department Chair that had my back. Maybe in my new position. 🤞🏻
Not wrong though.

My devs fucked up? My fault. Buck stops here. Always will.

I will make them correct and be better. But that's on me.

I got taught that early on by a good Lead Developer. Never done me wrong.

Depressing late Friday holiday news dump: Northwestern agrees to pay $75 million to the federal government.

The faculty vote against doing this, @heidikitrosser.bsky.social points out, was 595-4.

That's the kind of margin where going the other way reflects a major failure of university governance.
Here’s the text of the Northwestern settlement with the DoJ, which includes a $75 million financial component / payoff (cc @profmarkovic.bsky.social):

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

We’re having a small Thanksgiving here, so eating at the kitchen table rather than the dining room (which is full of puzzles and LEGOs). Table is cleaned and clothed, and serving plates, bowl, and utensils laid out.

I wish it didn’t feel so unusual and inspiring to see a leader treating everyone like they matter and saying that we have a responsibility to help each other
Combatting poverty and hunger in this city will take every single one of us. Myself included.

First side, apart from the stuffing, will be maple glazed carrots and parsnips. Cooked in the crockpot to avoid stove/oven traffic.

Family Thanksgiving tradition includes loading up on a massive breakfast at Kelly’s to provide enough fuel to power us through the cooking day.

I have a new recipe for make-ahead mashed potatoes that involves the stand mixer instead of a ricer or masher. Here’s the first part – peeling, boiling, and drying the potatoes.

Rolls made, make-ahead mashed potatoes made (with the stand mixer!!), turkey dry-brined. Would be nice to have made the bacon bits, but can do that tomorrow.
