Septuagenarian relocated to South Lanarkshire, where it's wet , windy and wonderful, though I didn't expect quite so much wind! I don't understand what woke is but I have a feeling I'm kind of woke-ish, as I don't like those that keep going on about it.

Best wishes and good luck Mr Mamdani.
As expected, Hamas can't find all the bodies, now that Israel has reduced most of Gaza to unrecognizable rubble and unexploded ordinance, giving Israel the excuse to restart the carnage.
Hamas seem to have fallen into an obvious trap & so the nightmare continues.

Ukraine is to be applauded for only attacking the infrastructure of war, whereas Russia deliberately terrorises and murders the civilian population.
Ukraine is our frontline and we should fully support it without any restrictions.
Once again, the Israelis lie. They lie and they lie and they lie. They know we know they lie. Why treat people this way? It does not improve anyone's situation and just exposes Israel's callous cruelty and lack of morality.

I've just discovered The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
The internet can be a wonderful resource if it puts its mind to it.

Surprised that USA is at no.3 despite Trump's best efforts.

Oh no, my ocd compels me to say it's a pity that the stuff we have to mine to make those adorable solar panels and windmills is not renewable. I just hope some clever country creates a huge recycling industry & makes a fortune!
Yes it would be good to be able to choose the source of one's electricity and pay the appropriate price. That would expose the real costs.
Also, Ofgem is apparently exploring zonal pricing, where electricity costs reflect local supply and demand.
This should allow regions rich in renewables (like Scotland) to benefit from lower prices.
The government should be really pushing for this if it wants to improve its popularity.
I understand that the government is redesigning the wholesale electricity market so that renewables and nuclear can set their own prices, rather than being tied to gas.
What progress is being made and , really, why hasn't it already been done?
With the cost of gas inevitably rising ever higher as availability diminishes, what measure are being taken to unlink the electricity market from gas prices? It seems illogical and completely unsustainable to continue this way.
It's a major concern that large nuclear power stations are such a security risk (economically and politically) as well as an environmental one. All this and still the question of end of life disposal.
My vision for transitioning our fossil fuel industry - forging the future through retaining and retraining the workforce and repurposing the infrastructure, avoiding lay-offs and damaging communities.

Co-op to power equivalent of 140 stores a year from Wales' largest offshore wind farm. The Co-op has announced a major new deal to purchase 33GWh of clean energy a year from Wales' largest offshore wind farm.

Great news. Now I'm even more inclined to support the Co-Op.
Here's a poster I created, themed on the idea of regeneration of our fossil fuel industry into the new world of renewable energy.
It's along the style of those British Rail posters which provides the element of tradition. Hope you like it!
4/ Repurpose the refinery’s physical assets for clean fuel production, carbon capture, and energy storage.

5/ Funding -
Redirect fossil fuel subsidies.
Tap into the Great British Energy Act.
Use carbon border taxes to fund local regeneration.

This is strategic investment.
3/ Local Power, Local Pride.
The community must not be a passive recipient but an active architect. Establish a Lindsey Transition Council—composed of workers, unions, local leaders, and clean tech innovators.
2/ Every job lost must be matched with a pathway forward—into green hydrogen, synthetic fuels, retrofitting, or local enterprise. Retraining must be funded, dignified, and tailored to real futures.
A Just Transition for the Rebirth of Lindsey:

1/ Closure need not mark the end of an era, but the beginning of a transformation. The refinery, once a titan of fossil power, now stands ready to be reborn as a hub of clean energy with skilled labour and a resilient community.
The UK's stance on Russian oil is dismissed by Modi ; India actually supplies UK with oil received from Russia. This loophole will close early 2026 but cheap #Russianoil is a factor in the close down of #Lindsey refinery.
Should the state step in and support a more gradual transition away from oil?
Pretty much as expected. Lying Israelis flout international law by attacking and arresting peaceful unarmed flotilla carrying humanitarian aid in international waters on flimsy excuse of being "militarily justified". We should never have fought the Ottoman Empire.

Fascinating. Love that iconic Concorde. Just thought I'd drop by here as we share the same name!
