from the first chapter of I BELIEVE IN MISTER BONES, wherein our main character encounters three kids dressed up in horror movie halloween costumes while vendoring at a popup market

“You know,” Daniel said to the Creeper, “that costume you have on? The person who made that movie is a convicted child molester.”
“Huh?” the Creeper said.
Eileen nudged him with her elbow. “Daniel.”
“Victor Salva. That’s his name, the guy who made Jeepers Creepers. Look it up sometime,” Daniel said. “Seriously, it’s pretty messed up. I’m sure he still profits from the franchise, too, and yet they continue releasing new ones every couple years.”
“What on earth are you talking about, mister?” the Babadook asked.
“What’s a child molester?” Freddy Krueger asked.
“How do you not know that?” Daniel asked. “You’re literally dressed as one.”
“I am?” he said, surprised.
Next to him, the Babadook started laughing at his brother and shouting, “You’re a child molester! You’re a child molester!”
“Molester! Molester!” echoed the Creeper, as all three of them seemed to lose interest in the book table and scampered off to the next vendor”

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Eileen asked, once they were gone. “Are you trying to get us arrested?”
“What do you mean? Of all people, shouldn’t children be aware of the concept of child molesters? Like . . . they’re the ones who need to watch out for that stuff! If anything, I’m doing a public service here.”
“I’m sure your medal is in the mail.”
“Also, wait,” Daniel said, “come to think about it, for kids raised by someone who’s already educating them about ableism, isn’t it extra nuts that their mom wouldn’t also be aware of someone as problematic as the Jeepers Creepers pervert? Where does this woman draw the line, right?”
Eileen stared at him for approximately ten seconds before saying, “I’m so glad we never had kids.”
