Habba’s parents found safe haven in the US in the 1980s when they claimed persecution in their home country of Iraq.
Acting US Attorney Alina Habba: "There were individuals that were saying this should be a safe harbor. A safe haven. Why? America is America because we protect our own. We don't allow this to happen. So when you say 'we,' I want to be very clear, it is not the Trump admin. It was the Biden admin."

“This thing I observed once in my classroom confirms my priors, so I shall now proclaim it a widespread phenomenon that proves students are lazy and I need not re-assess my own teaching methods” is my least favorite form of academic discourse.

I’m waiting for the first public school family in the U.S. to cite Mahmoud v. Taylor on this one.
Since the Pope has come out against generative AI, does this mean Catholic academics can refuse to use it on religious grounds?

The arc of the moral universe looks, from some directions, like a straight line.
The arc of the moral universe is rocking back and forth in the bathtub.

The arc of the moral universe is out of ideas.

The arc of the moral universe wants you to please wait. Your call is important to it.

Nov. 28, 1925: Hoping to drum up publicity for his work as a stuntman for hire, Arthur “Shorty” Houghtaling dons a parachute and Santa suit and leaps from the top of the 11-story Wiss Building in Newark, N.J. His chute only partly opens and he suffers serious injury on landing.

The losing percentage is eye-popping, but the subsidies chart is simply infuriating. There is no rational justification for UMass football.

Meanwhile, UMass women's basketball remains undefeated at 6-0. 🏀

For a fraction of the coaching salary.

Bowling Green has now scored more points tonight than they have in their last three games combined.

I think UMass is going to pull this off - a perfect(ly winless) season! At any other school, the coach and AD would be out of jobs before Thanksgiving, but not here! Heck, they might even get raises!

For my money, the absolute best tech innovation remains the out-of-office auto-reply. Such joy it brings, turning that thing on.

A pro basketball player who went to college on athletic scholarship seems a poor choice to be the celebrity in an ad about student loan debt.

Mamdani dominates Trump in the Oval while a bunch of weak House Dems vote to condemn a cartoonish caricature of socialism.

My god what a terrible national party leadership the Dems have.

The UMass WBB won their game last night by more points (40) than the football team lost theirs (28). Go UMass.

Only it's not exceptional AT ALL, and every marginalized person -- woman, POC, queer, what have you -- can tell you a story or three.
I’ve been thinking and it’s kind of exceptional that not a single person said “Hey now” after the piggy comment.

A reminder: The Epstein files are not some magic incantation that will make the US a different country from the one that twice elected a racist/rapist felon because so many people couldn't abide the notion of a woman president. The misogyny is endemic, foundational, across the political spectrum.
