7/ emotional reactivity. You cannot persuade these people with evidence, that will just make them more angry. Nothing will get them out of it but time. But the thing is that some can be, and we don’t know which ones, so we have to keep trying. It’s very frustrating.

5/ Almost everyone I know from high school Republicans, college republicans is no longer one. We switched sides based on issues, watching the results of Republican governance and politicking. Newt Gingrich was one of the most effective Democratic recruiters ever.

3/ When I was a young Republican and then a College Republican, it was because I had very strong views on issues and morals. I loathed liberal and leftist sanctimony, but I had actual beliefs I was trying to see implemented. These people do not, all they are doing is reacting to what they perceive

I was the founder of my high school Republican club. I can tell you that who we were then was very different to who Republicans are today, and who the youth are. We were very ideological and partisan. These people are temperamentally transgressive, issues don’t matter, per se. This matters.

This is my first time working with anyone who has the budget for Databricks. It's amazing how many problems this solves, immediately. Smaller budget organizations spend so much of their smaller budgets on recreating the wheel every time. It's another case of it being more expensive to be poor.

Do you think that Donald Trump can credibly threaten to end support for Israel? How could he have in a way that Obama couldn't ? My view is that Trump's attitudinal Zionism and reflexive disgust for Third Worldist politics makes him simpatico, but also, he has credibility from support.

I think that that's optimistic. Obama and Netanyahu had a very oppositional relationship, I don't think that Obama could have persuaded or pressured him into anything, for example. I don't think a fictional President Pawlenty could have, either.

I think that it's important to not let our well earned contempt for Trump et al. in many dimensions prevent us from giving him credit where it's due. Suppose for a minute that Europe assembled the Muslim world. Who else could have delivered Israel? Maybe, Biden, but he was gone by now.

I don't think that anyone's demanded a Nobel Peace Prize before, but there's no-one else who unified a large section of the Arab and Muslim world to isolate Palestine and force a truce, even Carter couldn't stop the rest from attacking Israel. This is an accomplished on par with the COVID vaccine.

It's not clear to me why a deal for peace requires HAMAS be allowed to stay in power. Perhaps it is a forced reality of the situation, but I don't see how this regime has any legitimacy. They have overstayed their electoral mandate and are terrorist aggressors.

Two things can be true at once: we are living in a regime defined by resentments and a personalist approach to governance last seen in Emperor Palpatine, and our "left" movements are incredibly silly institutions for rich people to pretend to be revolutionary, doing nothing.
