Comparing editions of D&D is like comparing the Imperial System to the Metric system and getting lost in the conversions.
You never needed to do conversions.
Each system will work. Just use the system you prefer.

Very well written. I think one of the reasons this movie (and the sequel) succeeds is because it at the same time asks us to be voyeur and look inside ourselves for the thing that makes us want to watch.

Jinx Dice
Wondrous Item, very rare, cursed

“These two dice were made with the skulls of some very unlucky pixies. The agony and hatred they felt during their untimely demise amplified the misfortune of whatever curse had been laid upon them.”

Whenever you finish a Long Rest, roll 2d6 to determine how many jinx points you have for the day. While you have at least 1 jinx point, whenever any dice is rolled, you can use your Reaction to spend jinx points and raise or lower the result by the amount spent.

Jinx points do not carry over and always reset when you finish a Long Rest.

Curse of the Jinx. If you lose this magic item while you still have jinx points, and do not find it before your next Long Rest, you gain a level of Exhaustion equal to half the number of jinx points (rounded up) you had when you lost it.

I have always avoided a curse or cursed item in games I manage that do not at least provide some benefits to the character or give the player the opportunity they have asked for to roleplay the character in a way that is fun for then.

When I was in 5th grade, a girl gave me a rollo, and I thought she liked me but was too afraid to ask her.
In high school, she confirmed I missed my shot, but I thanked her for the rollo again.

One of the strangest and more fun #TTRPG campaigns I ran was from 1984 to 1988. We sat down V&V and Autoduel Champions, and I ran a secret auto duel arena super hero group that used the touring circuit as a cover to track down the Dukes of Doom.

I remember talking to an artist who worked at TSR in the late 70s, who told me that the original toy line was developed as a deal between TSR (D&D) and Mattel, but that a bankruptcy ruined everything. Mattel decided to rename the toys and release them anyway.
Later LJN did the D&D line

Most, maybe all, of my solo #Traveller playing is set within the Interplanetary Relief Society (within my own Traveller universe) but I am wanting to start a "Lower Decks" inspired game set on a big Consortium flag ship, with the new Lightning supplement from @mongoosepublishing.bsky.social
