They also generate thousands of jobs, reduce our exposure to volatile gas prices, and allow us to stick two fingers up to fossil-fueled dictators.

You have to ask, why was Witkoff chosen for this critically important role of special envoy to Putin? He had no diplomatic or foreign policy experience. No education on those subjects. So of all people, why him? I think what we all surmised is clear - Putin wanted Witkoff.

I know we all sort of know this but it's extraordinary to see it laid out like this. (I say, waiting for someone to say £90bn isn't that much really.) We so clearly need a completely different kind of politics to navigate the next decade - conscious renewal rather than managed decline.
The UK is losing up to £250m a day in lost tax revenue due to the economic impact of Brexit, House of Commons Library analysis for the Lib Dems suggests.

Brexit has blown a "black hole of [up to] £90 billion a year in the public finances" the party says. Even under lower estimates the hit is ~£65bn

Agree. Never too late to deliver even though lives are lost every day we delay
11/12 The only way to change Putin’s calculus is to make waiting worse than stopping. That means:

✅ Release frozen Russian assets to Ukraine
✅ Provide more weapons and long-range missiles
✅ Impose tougher sanctions on Russia

The left conviction that you don't need broad based taxes to support public services is a giant problem not only in Britain
My pre-budget take for the LSE Politics blog is up:

Labour are unable to articulate any vision or sense of purpose.

Much of the left has convinced itself that government spending can be maintained without broad-based tax increases.

Not a great budget backdrop.
