been ages since I've made a #meettheartist so here it is! ✍️

my name is Daria Bolshikh, I'm a professional illustrator, with a degree and everything!
I also do 3D modelling, a bit of writing and speak about 3.3 languages 👋

open for commissions!

a #meettheartist about me: there's a full-body portrait of a young woman with shoulder-length curly hair, with a subtle light streak on one side, wearing a black beanie, dark red turtle-neck, short black overall dress, black leggings, white socks and pale green-ish sneakers

to the right of her are a number of items: a dark grey backpack with a patch depicting a little medieval manuscript-style fish with legs, then there's an ipad with an apple pencil attached, iphone with an eva themed case, carabiner keychain, glasses, hand-sanitizer, a pack of paper handkerchiefs, eye-drops, teo chapsticks, a pack of painkillers and a folded yellow grocery bag

the top of the image says "meet the artist", followed by my name - Daria Bolshikh, then under it it's "she/her 26 sagittarius"

a list of likes: swimming, long walks, yapping, vampires, fantasy, writing paragraphs about my OCs that no living soul will ever see

a list of dislikes: raisins, loud noises, big crowds, hot weather, insects, traveling

some small notes around the figure: 174 cm/5.7', always wearing headphones, natural blonde streak that affects half my face, little bee tattoo on my forearm (a small drawing of a bee), somehow almost always in leggings, sneakers are best shoes

notes around the items: a medieval fish patchI bought years ago, terrible eyesight, never leaving the house without a chapstick, using procreate on an 12.9'' iPad Pro with a 2nd gen Apple Pencil, carabiner keychain (ikyk), painkillers for chronic headaches, reusable grocery bag

It is actually insane, and it somehow never clicked in my head before: you improve really fast at things when you teach them

I had to study and fix a lot of muscle anatomy, draw a gazillion of Loomis heads, fix so many greyscale boxes this last year - my uni degree can’t even compare

it’s not easy but I am glad I’m doing it instead of polishing generated art like I was offered to after graduating

just wish I had some energy leftover after a workday to actually be an artist

me, 10 years ago: “honestly I’d be happy to do any job as long as I’m drawing, hell I’d draw grass textures all day!”

me, now, getting paid to teach others and checking dozens of homeworks every day: “waaaa… not the passive skill growth and a stable pay for literally drawing and talking waaa”

very true!
iirc SH3 is somewhat similar, where more often than not you’re able to just not engage - survival horror games of that period were more or less about resource management so avoiding combat was implied

SHf has weapon durability, but it also throws you a steel pipe at every corner so 🤷

it’s @ daria_b
has a bear cub eating spaghetti as pfp 🐻🍝

I have discussed it with friends and watched several people play and the combat just makes me angry :(
dariabolshikh.bsky.social
I’m generally very picky about combat - if it’s too repetitive, mandatory and seemingly with no plot significance it starts to seem like a chore

in SHf it feels like game time padding, just there to check a box - now to be completely honest I have not played through it myself (I know) BUT-

The concept art by kera did fully steal the show - while I find the combat extremely grating in this game, I could study the monster designs for hours, absolutely phenomenal. Hinako and her subsequent, let’s say, “looks” are my personal cup of tea, love them so much!

Silent Hill f is a polarizing game, but the story is probably my favorite of the series.

In many ways the same themes remind me a lot of It Follows - the absolute horror of growing up, the end of childhood, loss of innocence and the impending mortality of it all. All of them hit close to home.

Guillermo del Toro and Netflix have announced plans to form a new stop motion studio that will be both a studio and a school to push the medium forward and will develop plans to make Del Toro's next stop motion project after Pinocchio. I'm very hyped to see what this leads to!
