I renovated the Lincoln Bathroom in the White House. It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style, which was totally inappropriate for the Lincoln Era. I did it in black and white polished Statuary marble. This was very appropriate for the time of Abraham Lincoln and, in fact, could be the marble that was originally there!

Anyone tone-policing me on food items has no idea how many times my mom made frank and bean casserole when I was growing up. Real butter was a luxury food item.

My wife has volunteered at a local food bank for years and confirms what many of you have probably heard: in this case, straight cash is a good donation if you can do it.

The food banks have better access and buying power than individuals do, and can try to address item imbalances as they see them.

💯 agree. I've done plenty of pantry drives etc over the years and I'm organizing a hygiene kit drive now. I question whether it's about intentionally giving folks something nice, versus "oh I never used it and it's about to expire, so I'll pop it in the box." I've seen A LOT of that.
