Evil. Really, quite evil. Incessant reader. A steady supply of novels keeps me from running amok, so: yea, libraries. Dislikes quite a large swath of humanity.

Found a glowing thing in the sunshine while I walked and waited for a friend this afternoon
some type of seagrass, I think? the grass strands are skinny and variegated green red, and arching above, glowing in the sunlight are fuzzy looking red pink cat tails - the thing made me feel like I was at the seas side in the middle of a city Closer up view of the grass strands from the first picture

thankfully I usually enjoy what I cook (by which I mean it usually turns out!) enough to have it a day or two (or even three) - this recipe is 'feeds 4' so it's likely to be dinner for me and my other person at LEAST two nights, and maybe packed lunch another day

I've been hard at work building hand carved wooden masks and spiky little guys for ARMOR, my upcoming solo show at Stranger Factory. You can get on the preview list on their website!
a bald person holds up a grinning wooden mask. the mask has three eyes. the banner also reads: armor, new work from shing yin khor. nov 1-31, strangers factory. a spiky stegosaurus like creature, made from ceramic. the banner also reads: armor, new work from shing yin khor. nov 1-31, strangers factory.

oooh, good plan for next time! (I admit I made this recipe today primarily because for once I already possessed EVERY SINGLE INGREDIENT in my kitchen (today's thighs were in the freezer already, and had the bones, so....)

Not long after my kid was born, we were harassed by a creep at a bus stop who followed me onto the bus

I will never forget how an entire bus load of Chicagoans spontaneously took on the tasks of surrounding him, making sure I was okay, and ensuring he got off at the next stop

THAT’S the energy

Dedicated cadres of small-d democrat, small-r republican people working extremely hard, in their neighborhoods, with history-making passion, to resist tyranny on the most basic, body-on-the-line level, the most important component being: MANY of the participants never having been activists before.

(at least I did finally get taught you can skin ginger with a spoon edge - in my 30s!)

agree that short cuts are a wonder, but then I feel I've wasted a ton of spice or herb, too, because I'm just - not going to use a jar full by the time it should really go out, you know? the whole clove or root lasts so much longer until needed......(mostly cooking for two or more, too)

(mind you - I expect it to be very worth it. but STILL.)

I mean, hell: assembling the tools and the spices, much less prepping the spices, is already going to take the 20 minutes prep time you allotted!

Here's what I always want to tell the people writing the NYTimes recipes: I am my own, non-professional sous chef, and the prep is going to take at LEAST three times what you think it will. Peel garlic, put in freezer. Peel the piece of ginger. Now use a good grater to grate the ginger....etc, etc

I'll ask her opinion when she comes in for snacks and adoration

Accurate. (except it's Jett, which for some reason the text often changes to Jeff)

Federal taxpayer dollars should stop paying for propaganda videos vilifying the opposition party, and BWI and every other airport should say no. Travelers in airport security lines are captive audiences and roughly half voted for the party being vilified.

As I read this, I keep thinking over and over again about the two major groups I see in politics and policy spaces: folks who take opinion polls as gospel and folks who see them as indicators of what people believe at the moment that can be *shaped* into something else.

we’ll see how his mayoral tenure shakes out but i am convinced that Mamdani has the juice. not just the charisma to win an election but the temperament to govern and the measured pragmatism of someone who genuinely believes what they’re saying and wants to accomplish real things.
