What is common knowledge in your field but shocks outsiders?

More than half the CO₂ emissions of the Industrial Age have been pumped into the atmosphere since 1990.

Literally nothing is 'carbon neutral'. It is a physical impossibility. If someone's telling you their product has zero climate impact, they're actively deciding to lie to you.

@wyden.senate.gov @muellershewrote.com @aoc.bsky.social Please use your platforms to tell what is happening in Chicago. Feds are deliberately causing car crashes and creating scenes so they can tear gas and terrorize our communities. We are fighting back but the nation needs to be with us.

The order takes affect Wednesday and bars the civil arrest of any “party, witness, or potential witness” while going to, remaining at or returning from court proceedings inside the courthouse or its parking lots, sidewalks or entryways.

Judicial warrants can still be served.

You may have noticed that folks who are from Chicago love this city. There's a reason for that. I walked to the lake with friends yesterday, and when I saw the waves rolling in, I felt something shift back into place inside of me. So many parts of this city are part of me. We will defend this place.

Oh gosh yes

Between kiddo’s birthday and fall medical stuff and the academic publishing calendar, this is one of the most exhausting and expensive months of the year

October is so frustrating bc I want to spend it being spooky and festive and autumnal, but it always ends up the busiest and most hectic month somehow, such that I’m lucky if I even manage time to cobble a costume together by the end of it 😢 🦇

I also saw this beautiful Wild Turkey on Saturday as well.

A Wild Turkey is foraging at a sports field. Big thick dark body feathers and blue and red skin on the head and neck. The bump on their nose is called a snood. The red skin flap under the chin is called a wattle.

To be clear:

LA County has declared a state of emergency BECAUSE OF the federal government.

The Feds, LA County is (correctly) saying, have CAUSED the emergency.

This is a striking political moment of internal collapse. Local govts feeling compelled to protect their ppl from … their own govt.

a grey satyr with with tarot cards and various occult paraphernalia around her. An undead, mummified lion-folk striding forward across a windy desert. A storm brews in the background. Her skin is blackened and taut to her bones, golden eyes gleaming as bright green magic dances between her skeletal hands. Intricate decorated linen wrappings coil her limbs, torso, and up her throat. She is clad in a red silk dress that dances in the wind. A turquoise belt wreaths her thin waist. Bronze jewelry adorns her forearms, rings on her fingers. She exudes confidence. a pale, gaunt werewolf-like creature. Its teeth are long and sharp and jagged. It breathes fungal spores. a white werewolf kneels in a dense forest, fungi growing all over its body. It holds a staff and stares forlornly off camera.

I will never forget how an entire bus load of Chicagoans spontaneously took on the tasks of surrounding him, making sure I was okay, and ensuring he got off at the next stop

A genuine social moment, so new and spontaneous (though not without antecedents and seedbeds) it doesn't even yet have a theory or "ideology." Just: people doing....

This evening’s reminder that you can be a part of a movement of people rising up and caring for each other.

It doesn’t take any particular skill or bravery and nobody will ask you where you were yesterday, they’ll just press work into your hands that badly needs doing.
