The stigma and exclusion experienced by people suffering from homelessness and drug addiction are very real. But Montrealers have also expressed valid concerns.

Thread for those new to BlueSky. First of all, welcome. It feels like a safer space, doesn’t it? But also perhaps a bit disorienting initially? Here’s some tips for getting your bearings.

Bluesky,

Today is my 2nd day on here as an escapee from The Bad Place. I am BEGGING y’all to repost this

I have $80,000 in scholarship money to give away to women and girls NATIONWIDE. I worked so hard to raise this money. Applications open THIS week. I’m scared the mass migration will impact this

"Polling data show that Donald Trump’s supporters were deeply misinformed..."

If "more than half of the electorate wants to be misinformed, America – and indeed human civilization – is in serious trouble."

Thanks to the first Canada acquired H5N1 case, there’s an uptick in “bird flu pandemic imminent” and “omg it’s gone H2H!” posts. Those are not accurate.

However, given the situation in the US, I have some real concerns about this that grow progressively more grave.

New to Bluesky? A helpful tip in case you didn't know: instead of hashtags, you can just add emojis or certain terms to ensure you reach topic-specific feeds & save characters in posts.
E.g., my usuals:
🛟 or public health
🩺 or medsky
🧭 or bioethics
🧪or science
📉📈 or econsky
😷 or episky

Some thoughts about using #bluesky for newbies ...

* fill out your bio
* post (even into the void)
* check out feeds
* block don't feed trolls
* like and repost as you pass through

There isn't the same algorithm here so we make the weather. 😊
