annoyingly to me, i have to check the alt text for every single image i repost to make sure it is actually alt text and not anything else

this is frustrating

"lore/extra context/details/rambling in alt text" is also annoying. that is not what it is for. please stop doing this

In other words, alt text and the alt attribute predate the slog of A.I. technology. Alt text predates every single social media platform. Alt text has been a standard and best practice for quite a while. Insinuating alt text is just a tool for A.I. scraping is ignorant of history and accessibility.

For decades, the alt attribute on the image element has existed for the purpose of alt text. Alt text is the text alternative that a screen reader reads when it encounters an image. This is the same text that shows up on the page when an image fails to load.

if you're not sure how a blind or VI character would do something (or if you struggle to do something because of your own vision), you can look it up to see if there's an aid for it

this is true for disability in general. there are a lot of aids and modifications for aids

here's some that i have the Biggest Opinions About wrt the new designs and the software. i can make them feel like what using the programs feel like to me, and it feels sooooo good. i'll prolly draw some more and write up a blog post about my thoughts about each of them cause it was really fun :)
comparison between unity's default icon and mine. unity's is the big blocky cube with a big bold 6 pasted on top, and mine is a magenta square background with a default blender cube on to, positioned to have the same orientation and perspective as the old unity logo. it has 3 arrows coming out of the three faces in the left handed Y-up orientation. pasted overtop is the text "UNITY 6000" comparison between unity's unity hub icon and mine. mine is a grey folder with a big list of projects on the front, a ton of messy papers spilling out of it, and unity's axis gizmos coming out, over, and piercing through the folder comparison between unity's unity version control icon and mine. mine is a big shiny blue orb with the text "PLASTIC" written overtop. 3 small lines come out of the left and right sides comparison between jetbrains' rider icon and mine. mine looks a lot like their windows icon, but i've changed the text from "RD" to say "R-IDE-R", with the "IDE" being significantly bigger cause i can't stop myself from making puns

i can keep them all pretty stylistically consistent cause i'm just using the same kinda style i love to draw with regularly, and it's really so freeing to make shit fast and messy and imperfect. i'm kinda stunned at how fast i made all 16 of these, it was like 3 or 4 sessions total
comparison between apple's music icon and mine. mine is similar but uses a dotted eighth note on top red bubbles the same colour as apple's icon comparison between apple's text edit icon and mine. mine is also a piece of lined paper but uses a wooden pencil instead of a mechanical pencil, and throws in a spongebob squarepants reference with a big fancy "The" written across the top comparison between slack's default icon and mine. mine rotates their icon to the same degree as it used to be, and takes all of the colours out of the dots and lines and splashes them across the background to give it some depth comparison between microsoft's visual studio code icon and mine. mine is literally just an angular looking blue fish in a similar shape. the fish is blushing because i thought it was cute

some icons are very similar to their original designs, and some really aren't. i tried to keep them all having a similar colour palette to keep them quickly recognizable, but played with the silhouette because apple making everything a ~rounded square~ sucks ass actually

last week i remembered that macOS lets you set your own icons and that *I* have the power to delegitimize the professionalism of the software that runs on my machine, so here's a thread of the 16 new icons i've made so far

a visual representation of brain fog/confusion, primarily represented by the attempt to insert shapes into other shapes they won't fit in, with connected neural pathways that are interrupted and shoot off in another direction. there is a lot of confused rambling, deliberate and unintentional misspelling, holes, and a discord chat that cannot be responded to, which is attached to a brain stem that is on fire, traveling up the side of the screen. thoughts are interrupted, unable to be completed, and fade into nothing.
