#Borneo 2024
Pied or White Headed Stilt, Himantopus leucocephalus.
Stilts have the longest leg length relative to body size of all birds making a great candidate for #BirdOfTheDay #Skinnylegs

Photo taken along a river in Borneo shows a white headed stilt standing on a rock in the middle of water. It is a delicate looking bird with a white head, front of neck, chest and underside. It has a glossy black back and nape of neck and a long thin black bill very slightly curved up. Its legs are extraordinarily long and bright pinky-orange. in the foreground are clumps of water hyacinth foliage, hiding the birds feet, with more of the same foliage out of focus in the background.
Wow! This is stunning 😍😍

#Morocco 2025
Despite all the birds I've posted this was actually a #herps trip. In 10 days we saw 38 different #reptiles and amphibians including 12 #lizards species. This Occelated Lizard in the Atlas Mountains was gorgeous

Photo shows a Moroccan Ocellated Lizard, Timon tangitanes. It's a medium sized lizard approx 15cm in length, mainly green in colouration with multiple fine black and brown spots and a bluish throat. Along its sides from its shoulder downwards there are a number of larger blue spots surrounded by a thin line of black giving it its name "ocellated". Its sitting on a sandstone rock in the sun. its forked tongue is just poking out

This cute little fluff ball makes a delightful #birdinabush for #BirdOfTheDay but posed me a bit of an identification problem. I've gone for juvenile blackcap but any other suggestions....?

Photograph shows a fluffy brown bird with a buff underside and slightly darker face and topside taken in Morocco in September. It is sitting on a branch in some sort of azalea bush with a background containing some dark red flower buds and some green leaves.

Darling, the sight of those beautiful wings gives me goosebumps all down my #LongNeck 😂

Photo taken in Borneo along the Kinabatangan River in the late afternoon sun showing 2, uniformly white, great egrets standing on the branch of a palm tree. The bird on the right has just landed and, facing away from the camera, has its wings raised and open as it gains its balance. The bird on the left is facing right looking at the newcomer and showing its long yellow beak, the feathers all down its head and neck are raised
#BirdOfTheDay (must check spelling 🙄🙄)
How interesting! I knew about "the triangle thing" (difficult to escape if you went to school) but not about his interest and theories of music, or that he was such a progressive (women! as equals! whatever next! 😂)
Yes Tatooine was filmed in Tunisia in the desert. We were in the Atlas mountains which were rocky enough to have no vegetation in places, one of our group mentioned it was an area like this used for the Pod Races but in fact the Atlas mountains also extend into Tunisia & they were filmed there
I thought these were on the lighter side and definitely pale feet - they show up better on other photos. I've also got some photos of what I've called a Chiffchaff, and some others that I want to call a different warbler altogether but most of them are "blurred dots for identification purposes" 😂😂
#Morocco Sept 2025 - A second offering for #BirdOfTheDay #Wings

A Juvenile Lesser Black Backed #Gull (I think) making a rather undignified attempt to get up!
Canon R5 500mm f/8 1/2000s ISO800

#EastCoastKin #birds #travel #nature
Photo of a juvenile gull with its belly and tip of its beak on the plain damp sand, its wings are held open above it and one pink leg is showing where it is trying to push off to stand up. It id mostly brown in colour with mottled brown and white on the upper wing and on its belly and rump.
The lack of a pale window on its primary feathers and its dark head make it likely to be a juvenile Lesser black backed gull - although I'm happy to be corrected!
Yes - Both Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler are of the genus Phylloscopus and are VERY difficult to tell apart unless you actually have them in the hand. To make matters worse both migrate down the east coast of Morocco 🙄😂. I went with Willow Warbler here on the colour of the legs .....?
#Morocco 2025
The Willow warbler showing of its #wings and beautiful yellow plumage. Definitely gained extra respect for "our" birds seeing how harsh the environments they migrate through are.

Photo of a willow warbler with its wings outstretched balancing in a bush of green and brown thorns (Genus Sarcopoterium) growing in the in the semi arid area of habitat Morocco- This delicate bird has a bright yellow chest and belly with a darker greener nech nape and head It has a prominent black eyestripe with another white stripe above the black
A small single bright yellow flower to the left of the bird gives a very slightly more arty feel to the picture
Just found your #DailyPuffin - you look like you've been to Sule Skerry too. Beautiful place!
I'm not so sure it is good - I think it's more a sign of sand eel number collapse than the good availability of fish.
Thanks Bill, I do love a puffin too 😊
Coming in with a #beakful 2025

Plenty of activity at Sule Skerry in the N Atlantic this summer, but it was noticeable that many of the #Puffin were coming in with fish and not sand-eels

Photo of a puffin coming in to land with a beak full of small fish to feed it's chicks / partner on the nest. The bird has its wings wide open and flared to slow it down, its body is dropped at an angle along with its bright orange feet. It has the black / grey wings and white chest and belly typical of a puffin as well as the slightly comical clown like face with its black top of head white face dark eyes and vibrant orange beak. the background is the out of focus blue sea.
😆 - I have 5000 bird dots.....I always think as I take them "I can do something with this" .... but at least I get to claim them as identification record shots 🤷‍♀️😂
Sorry about the flood of notifications but I had a lot to catch up 😆. I love your drawings - I imagine the whole picture to be no more than A4 and so each individual item quite small, am I right?

A #juvenile Gannet showing of its piano-key wings as it soars around the Bempton cliffs learning from its elders for next year.

Canon R5 200mm f/7.1 1/4000s ISO640 -1EV (and still the whites are blown out🙄)

#BirdOfTheDay #birds #UKbirds #EastCoastKin #artyear #Colouraday #B&WFri
The photo shows a 4th year juvenile Gannet flying above a dark sea just below my vantage point, with it's wings outstretched and tilted slightly towards me. It has the orange head and striking blue eye of the adult with a brilliant white back and leading wing with dark brown wing ends. This is its final year before it gains full breeding plumage. The juveniles start mainly grey becoming progressively more black and white until by this year they have only a few black feathers left in the adult white areas - predominantly in the and tail and trailing wing edge the alternating black and white of which look a bit like a piano keyboard.
Have an amazing time, Mamady. It's a spectacular place with wonderful people and the sunsets....❤️‍🔥
