🤯 It baffles my mind that such a small bird can have such a long tail! The Green-tailed Trainbearer (sub-species of hummingbird) flits about the tree never staying still for too long! #hummingbirds #birdsoftheworld #birdsofperu #birdphotos 🪶
Omg great photo! I had never been this close before, it was so cool! It did eventually think I got too close and hid further into the reeds. Haha

I thought I was sneaky, but this heron let me get closer than ever. #birdsoftheworld #birds 🪶

Let's finish off September with a bang! 💥 The #TyrianMetaltail may look similar to the #AmaziliaHummingbird, but this small green and metalic bronze bird is only found in the high #AndesMountains and prefer more humid climates. #birdsofperu #incatrail #hummingbird #birdsoftheworld #birds 🪶
This #LongTailedMockingbird does have its own unique song and call, but it can be hard to discern amongst other birds. #birdsofperu #ornithology
Most people ignore this bird! Why? Because it is a #mockingbird! Which means sometimes you don't know its there given it copycat sounds of other bird songs. #birds 🪶 #birdsoftheworld
This one zipped by and caught my eye! I chased this #VermillionFlycatcher all around a park in #Lima once I saw its stunning orange head and red belly. It finally settled on the tip top of this tree for only a moment, but just long enough so I could capture it! 🐦‍🔥 #birdsofperu #birdphotography 🪶

Here is a great update from one of the family members, it’s too long to copy and paste here, but it is great first hand information: www.facebook.com/share/p/1JBd...

I understand your anger and frustration, I hope no one has to watch that 💝
A new update was also provided, the indigenous in the region have claimed the farm is on their ancestral territory and the ostriches are therefore under their protection.
After extensive reading and research over the past couple of days, I have concluded that on many level the CFIA has been in the wrong and improperly classified the birds who are now safe and healthy.

According to their website their legal fees have mounted to 290K since December 2024 and they have fund raised 133K.
But then the money goes to the fees, would it not? I’m not sure it’s quite the same. They had no assurance that they would get the money back as they were spending it.
It sounds like Ostrich eggs are more profitable than the Ostriches themselves and carry tons of anti-bodies

How can you get involved? Polish your bins, grab a friend, and let's go!

I would be surprised that they are spending all this money on lawyer fees if the birds were going to be killed anyway for meat. It seems to me their claim that they are a research facility is legitimate.
Hey, I did a little more research, apparently they are not and have not been a meat farm. The CFIA is involved because they are classified as a meat farm and would not change the classification. Have you heard contrary information?
- allowing this farm to keep their birds may cause a ripple effect in other farms wanting the same
- it has been over 6 months and the birds no longer have the disease and would no longer be shedding the virus
- it is NOT ostrich meat farm
- the birds could be tested to ensure they no longer have it
