I once attended a talk on this subject and they said in Roman times there was suspicion about whether 'blind beggars' were faking it and getting stuff 'they didn't deserve'. A toxic anxiety as old as time.
This endemic anxiety about whether "disabled people are really disabled"/whether they are "taking advantage of us" is so ubiquitous through the decades/centuries, too.

You’re not allowed to do anything about it either, but it’s deeper than that. We have so far to go to actually get accountability and change. For now they don’t even want us to register our discontent with abuse and rape

And, reminder, if ANYONE tries to excuse underage rape or sexual assault, you can just straight up say to their face "it's rape of a child" and let them sit with that discomfort.
There are no excuses.

Even w its non stop presence on social media this week I haven’t seen anyone offer a good piece on what sexual abuse / rape really is. Short answer, it’s torture. Intentionally inflicted politically motivated torture in service of a power structure
