ran into this when I used Pods to move across country this year. Pod was just never delivered because they have a shortage of drivers. My movers told me it was extremely bad on the east coast due to the limits on who gets CDLs and salaries being at some of their lowest in ages.
Ok people like when I talk about my job, modern logistics work for food manufacturing,

And here’s a fun one: there’s already a shortage of truck drivers and it’s about to get very bad, this will lead to a lot more inflation

USPS is a government service and we REALLY don’t want all mail delivery to be privatized because then many people simply won’t be able to receive mail.

but Amazon continuing to prop up USPS (an org that has been repeatedly cut off at the knees by the GOP) is also not great!

Fund USPS properly!
🚨SCOOP: Amazon is preparing to sever ties with USPS and expand its shipping network as a true coast-to-coast rival.

It could cost USPS more than *$6 billion* a year in lost revenue, and lead Amazon to dominate yet another facet of the economy.

USPS posted a *$9 billion* loss in 2025.
Amazon explores cutting ties with USPS, building its own delivery network
Amazon looks into expanding its nationwide delivery network and giving up its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Postal Service.

The fact this juxtaposition isn’t the headline in the news on a daily basis really illustrates just how mealy mouthed major news in the US has become.
They are beating people who maybe once had a broken taillight and sending them to foreign slave prisons while freeing the worst fraudsters and every corrupt pol. The juxtaposition is so stark and appalling.
NEW: The commutation Trump issued to David Gentile wipes away all further fines & restitution.

Gentile had been sentenced to 7 years for his role in a $1.6B scheme that defrauded thousands of investors.

Prosecutors had been seeking $15.5M in forfeiture.

I’m just totally flabbergasted congress isn’t moving to impeach his ass a dozen times over. between the murder of people on boats, the bizarre Mark Kelly targeting, and the insanely poor opsec the dude is a walking disaster.

We made a mistake letting people who weren't 5-18 in 1996 on the internet and we'll spend centuries untangling this problem.

one of the main reasons the US won the revolutionary war was because Washington insisted on smallpox inoculation for every member of the military. That was TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY YEARS AGO.
Breaking News: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he personally instructed the CDC to abandon its position that vaccines do not cause autism. The move underscores his determination to challenge scientific orthodoxy — in this case, that vaccines save lives — and bend the health department to his will.
RFK Jr. Says He Instructed CDC to Change Vaccines and Autism Language on Website
In an interview, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cited gaps in vaccine safety research. His critics say he is ignoring a larger point: Vaccines save lives.

Still thinking about how many school districts, including Fort Worth ISD, no longer teach entire novels to students. Just excerpts.

socializing on social media is like socializing in a school cafeteria. it is carefully cultivated and maintained by others and the threat of suspension for saying something objectionable is high.

but the socializing sure is convenient!
Maybe we need to accept that social platforms at scale peaked and it's time to make different choices in terms of how we connect and communicate w/each other.

Unless we want to continue eating at the same restaurant that serves terrible food and complaining about how bad it is in the restaurant?
at a freakin minimum the censors should disclose this detail about their chilling, de-platforming choices

- further cut food safety
- gave a few senators enormous financial handouts for their possible roles in Jan 6

Saw the terrific terrific Librarians in Fort Worth tonight. it’s all about the white christian nationalist push to ban books in the US—including in the town I’m currently living in! Terrific group of people.

Patrick tried this ban in Texas at the behest of the liquor lobby. Curious who got Mitch to add it to the spending bill.

as someone who just moved from a weed state to a hemp state i hate them.

One of the most timely and terrific books i’ve read this year was Greg Grandin’s America, América. It’s most haunting part was its painfully incisive assessment of the modern US in its final pages

Anyways just like you shouldn’t blame writers and editors at GMG for spanfeller be informed before you blame conde writers and editors. they’re doing largely excellent work and shouldnt be the target of anyone’s outrage.

this condé nast thing, from what’s been reported, reminds me of when Spanfeller fired Barry because the whole union was waiting in the hallways before a big meeting. reflexive terminations are never a wise move when dealing with union activity. it just makes the upset workers furious.
New: Conde Nast fired four employees who were among a group that confronted the company's head of human resources on Wednesday over the decision to fold Teen Vogue into Vogue/recent cuts. Employees who were fired included journalists from the New Yorker, Wired, and Bon Appétit.

I moved to Texas from New York last month and I’m surprised at what I find myself longing for. I miss my friends and good Asian grocery stores that don’t require 40 mile drives. the parks and theater. the loss of top bars too. yet not the loss of fine dining or NYC museums
but god man i miss weed.
