I don’t know, it’s always been an IP driven company. They mostly need to just make better movies. It’s hard to make a great movie of any kind, whether a new idea or a sequel.

I don’t know if Tron failed because it’s old IP no one cares about. Focus Features made $180 million with a Nosferatu remake 🤷‍♂️

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think Tron: Ares is struggling because it’s not a great movie and the trailers don’t make it look very good, not because it’s Tron.

Legacy wasn't a bomb though.
It probably made $, just not a lot. Tron merch in the parks sells well. The Tron ride is one of the most popular ones they have. I don't think it's a terrible thing for Disney to try. And if it was a great movie, it'd probably make a fair amount of $.

And look, I'm not defending Ares. I'm a Tron guy and I wasn't particularly interested in it...but because the trailers don't make it look very good. Still, I can pretty easily see why Disney gave it a try. If it turned out to be a great movie, it's not hard to see it succeeding.
