Today I found a helpful new AI feature sent a package to the wrong place, and EVERYTHING is like that now. I’m spending so much time fixing shit because AI I never asked for and can’t opt out of shows up in places I’m not expecting. I’m so ANNOYED
Whatever else it can do, this tech adds work and erodes trust. The extra work is time-wasting and wearying, and I resent the erosion of trust most deeply. I cannot believe it is healthy for society to be ever less sure that anything you encounter is the real thought or expression of a fellow human
I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced

Anniversary of halifax explosion so obligatory

"Hold up the train. Ammunition ship afire in harbour making for Pier 6 and will explode. Guess this will be my last message. Good-bye boys."

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

it might seem surprising that the people who said “look, let trans people live their lives, but i have Reasonable Concerns about sports and toilets” aren’t up in arms about this, but what you have to remember is that those people who said that are liars who were lying

I just found this drawing I did when I was a student for the first time, way back when. Billie Holliday. Lady Day. Such a voice.

#ArchiveAdventCalendar We could never have expected when we researching the history of Barnsley town hall in 1933 that it was the start of a new Christmas tradition.

🎶 Arthur Godfrey wrote Christmas Eve in 1933 but was lost for 90 years until we found it in an old copy of The Barnsley Chronicle

I’m doing a second auction for Patch, a local charity that provides food, cloths and toys for people in poverty. At Christmas time they gift toys to kids who’ve had a referral. What could be more in the spirit of Christmas? This little wren is up for auction to raise money for toys. Please dig deep

Even though you'll likely spot where this is going early on, treat yourself to the thread anyway. So neatly done ❤️
Every year the Cycling Proficiency people came to the school where I worked to put the Year 5s through their little training course. If they passed, they received a Cycling Proficiency certificate at the end. It wasn’t rocket science. They always passed.

Except one year, a child didn’t.

It’s the time of year when I do my Christmas auction. This mouse icon is up for auction and it’s to raise money for Shelter Cymru & Doctors without borders. 100% of the money raised will go to these charities on a 50-50 basis.

Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard of @univcollegeoxford.bsky.social

Contrary to what the card says, it was absolutely not founded in AD 872, but in 1249. which is still a Very Long Time Ago.
