Honestly, the best part about watching all the steamboats on Sunday was using the 4x5 as a beacon for old nerds to talk to.

Met a couple in their 70's that make swiss enamel for a living and they told me how to cyanide bomb gold. Also met a guy that repaired cameras over at Provident his whole life

A black and white photo of the paddle steamer "Belle of Louisville" on the Ohio River. It's passing underneath the trusses of the Purple People Bridge that connects Newport, KY and Cincinnati, OH. The bridge has what appear to be vendor tents set up (it's a foot bridge). The steamboat is somewhat shaded by the bridge but there are two bright plumes of steam billowing out of the exhaust. If you look closely above the ornate smokestacks in front of them you can see the heat distortion blurring the building in the background. The sternwheel is just barely visible in the back and it's kicking up a fine mist just above the wake.

yo his website auto-redirects to a generic subdomain off Wix and there is, I shit you not, an "I ❤️ IPv6" written in comic sans as the image they're using for "CYBER SECURITY"

That's so much worse than repackaging a cots box with tcpdump and SNMP

Why does his unhinged rant read like the navy seal copy pasta

This is why I hate that people focus on the water use. I mean yes that's important too, but it's why people get to "uhm achktually a hamborgar" while glossing over the absolute fucking scale of wasted power.

Ran into a working photographer last year that told me only other photographers like street, which I take as needing to put more cameras into people's hands.

This is wild after yesterday's Reddit thread from that adult game dev that's been told to fuck off by like every bank in the UK and, as a result, can't access any of the money they made on Steam.

Rules for thee mother fuckers

Okie dokie, helicoiled Mom’s 8x10. It’s not a pretty replacement screw but it works and holds the chonky steel lensboard.

Although, now I have to give her lens back since she can use it again

Sam Altman has said any workers who are displaced by OpenAI will be given free transportation to the nearest culling facility where they will be summarily slaughtered and converted into a nutritious paste meant to be consumed by busy tech executives who don’t have time for regular meals.
Sam Altman explains Open AIs vision for a world where no one goes hungry because all the displaced workers will be converted into essential nutrients for other tech executives.

Yeah I'm with you on that, if it's people I want to actually talk to in a group chat then I'm close enough with them to do the group chat on Signal. If I'm not close enough to essentially hand them my number then like, are y'all my friends or is this just a captive audience?

Oooh, nice tones!

I need to crawl back into the darkroom again, I picked up some Ansco 120 recently to give the Sabatier Effect a better shot.

Okay, fuck Kodak for being so expensive but trying 320TXP after all the Fomapan and Lucky does make it feel more worth it

These are coming out way better than expected

So I took the Pen F back out over the weekend and it's still a bit finicky. The first half of the roll shot fine and then it got progressively gummier in the last half until I had to start tapping the bottom to coax the linkage to free itself.

Still finished the roll, so that's an improvement

They’re drag racing steamboats holy shit that rules

Oh thank god its not just me. I stared at it and went… nah thats not cheetah… what the hell is the pattern? And just gave up and took a stab in the dark for the alt text

Was it at least from on top of a steamroller?

I'm pretty sure every argument in favor for throwing the world's resources towards Abominable Intelligence is just "but what if tho"

That includes this story about bein weawy scawwed, because anything to counter their fantasies on a surface or deep technical level is just met with "but what if tho"

Glad to see Russ Vought is setting himself up to go to jail when accountability starts.

Three key points:
1) The admin has been planning mass firings to begin in October since February
2) The work necessary to carry out mass firings is illegal during a shutdown, violating the Antideficiency Act, which carries a criminal penalty
3) This harms America, ridding us of talent and expertise
