I think everybody at NPR is glad our Susan Stamberg left us an advance obit for Frank Gehry. A legend on a legend.
Frank Gehry, whose designs defied gravity and convention, dies at 96
Gehry transformed modern architecture with exuberant buildings such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Guggenheim Museum. "I've always been for optimism and architecture not being sad," he said.

The problem with NYT editor Joe Kahn's assertion that "democracies rely on a common base of facts and understanding" is that it ignores everything that's happened in the "alternative facts" space.

The NYT really should have its public editor back.

the only remarkable thing here is that the White House openly admits to trolling entertainers by doing this and says it will do it again -- and I assume without paying Carpenter or anyone else, which is in line with the attitude of its larger donors.

BTW this headline sux. I'm generally a hybrid work person -- I like the flexibility but also have seen how much it reduces barriers for interns/entry level folx to ask me Qs in office. But simply mandating RTO is not a magical solution.

please find your local, small, non-profit radio station and give them money, esp. since they lost CPB funding this year

(says a man who has a recurring monthly donation to KEXP)
Seeing how it's #GivingTuesday and people are complaining about both the enshittification of platforms AND being old and out of touch because of a p4k list, let me suggest... radio. No seriously, short thread 1/

also an enjoyable bit of collateral damage in Kiffin going to LSU: Louisiana's gov bloviating about out-of-control salaries and buyouts and then signing off on a buyout clause that doesn't require Kiffin to look for another job
Look, the whole thing is icky and sordid, BUT...

LSU finding a way to torpedo Ole Miss' best season in a half century is glorious. Have some cold fried chicken and go back to irrelevance.
It’ll be nice to have a coach people hate for reasons that I dont also hate.

looooooooolllll these people are so basic and vain
This FBI “pulse check” report on the dept under Patel and Bongino is a mixed bag - the fibbies love having no more sensitivity training but many hate going on ICE raids and think leadership is weak - but this anecdote is clearly gold: K$H Patel wearing the traditional FBI Director’s ladies clothes.

it remains shitty to be unemployed and facing the end of jobless benefits next month -- BUT at least I am still getting requests for recruiter phone calls and interviews

this is a lot more than a lot of people are gettijng right now even though they are extremely qualified and need the $$$

All of the thread is obviously accurate. I will note overwork also kills men early because:

1) it rewards ignoring their basic health
2) it prioritizes the inability to develop meaningful friendships (never mind relationships)
3) it removes them from their communities
We have to talk about how this glorification of overwork is driving care downstream.

To compete, men are incentivized to dump care onto women in their families. And women in privileged positions are then incentivized to push care onto others more vulnerable than them.

Miller’s logic will always lead to a formal revival of slavery because if you argue migrants are incompatible with Western values in a society that is continuously built on the backs of their labor, you’re arguing for their exploitation as formal policy.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

all true and let's enjoy this for the bizarre spectacle it is now
Thing is, when Mamdani does something early next year that challenges some Trump admin nonsense, you *know* that Trump is going be extra angry and suggest it's a backstabbing, noting how "nice" he was to him in the Oval Office as if that means Mamdani should now agree to all of Trump's demands.
