Jim makes a good point - the idea that Ofcom is going to effectively police online hate is risible. The regulator has obviously realised that and decided to focus on BBC/C4
These are the top replies, being financially rewarded for posting this stuff, and the explanation offered by the site’s own AI for why it’s like that.

Anyway just flicking through the Sunday newspapers reading about some minor content infractions that Ofcom might look into at the BBC/Channel 4.

“kids peeing in litter boxes”, a thing that never happened, got orders of magnitude more coverage.

Tomorrow’s going to be a good stress test of the press. El Salvadoran President Bukele will visit the White House. At the press availability, every Q ought to be about Abrego Garcia: where is he now? Did US ask you to return him? etc. WH will hate, maybe try to prevent, so all should band together.

This has importance way outside CS/ML. If you ask why DOGE employees believe it’s smart to gut NSF and NIH, I’m afraid the answer is that they’ve bought a story where technical progress can proceed mostly decoupled from scientific knowledge.
After a short era in which people questioned the value of academia in ML, its value is more obvious than ever. Big labs stopped publishing the minute commercial incentives showed up and are relentlessly focused on a singular vision of scaling. Academia is a meaningful complement, bringing...

Another fatal plane crash today, this one in Boca Raton, Florida. I’m sure the complete evisceration of FAA air safety support staffing under Trump has nothing to do with all these crashes and it’s just a coincidence…again
