One of our volunteers turned her #WoodBurningStove into Lego storage, and this is why:

“I grew up on canal boats, so didn’t feel at home without a stove. When I bought my house, I got one. After this, every winter I had chest infections. When I stopped burning, I stopped getting chest infections."

#Woodburning has become a serious public #health issue in Hertfordshire since 2015 & gets worse every year. Despite extensive housing development there have been very few, if any, new Smoke Control Areas designated in past 40+yrs. SCAs remain sparse⬇️. Woodburning here is out of control.

Many people don't realise that using an open fire or log burner can TRIPLE the level of harmful pollution INSIDE & OUTSIDE our homes.
Burning wood releases PM2.5- the most worrying form of #AirPollution for our #Health & has been associated with causing damage to every organ in our bodies.

Yesterday's #Dieselgate trial opened with this from Thomas de la Mare KC:

"Each player in the industry basically took a conscious decision that customer convenience, which helped the industry sell more cars, was more important" than preventing #AirPollution.

It is time the car manufacturers paid.
