Real people experience real harm due to wood smoke pollution. It’s important these stories are told.
It's one week until #CleanAirNight. We're sharing some real-life experiences as a snapshot of the effect that #WoodBurning has on neighbours & communities.

A tree cutting business moved in next to a neighborhood in Missouri. The business is burning the wood—large amounts of it—in open pits.

The neighbors are trying to raise awareness of their plight after local authorities have done nothing to stop the burning.

My garden stinks of woodsmoke from an allegedly compliant burner 100m away.

I live in a Clean Air Zone.

It's ridiculous.
My pettist of pet air pollution peeves: log burners on foggy days. You are literally gassing yourself and your entire neighbourhood in dense air pollution trapped at ground level. It is where the word smog (smoke + fog) comes from. Should be banned. Until then, just don't.

A familiar story: The council insists it’s fine.

A business “previously used a skip that was removed regularly to deal with its waste.  However… they have switched to using a wood-burner that Preston City Council says is fully compliant….”

This year we are again official supporters of Clean Air Night, along with a number of other organizations, councils, NHS trusts, and others.
Breathing in air pollution from wood burning increases your risk of heart and lung disease, asthma, diabetes and dementia. Even homes with newer “Ecodesign” wood burners are three times more polluted than those without.

This #CleanAirNight, share the facts about wood burning.

It’s worth repeating: “Clean burning” is a myth.

So sorry that’s happening to you! That’s horrible.

It’s outrageous this is not only still legal to burn, but legal in SCAs.

New story on our website: A UK resident is being smoked out by someone burning a Defra-approved “smokeless fuel”—coal.

“It is mind boggling that this stuff is on a government website as being legal to burn.”

Wood smoke is very targetted pollution – next door neighbour could be getting >250µg/m³ PM2.5 indoors while someone a few doors down may not even smell smoke! Very easy to ignore until your neighbour starts burning. That’s why it needs to be considered by emissions per appliance, NOT local averages.
