It was me. I am the favorite former boss. And that piece of paper is a treasure. Although who could ever really be Roopsi’s “boss”?
In non-AI news, my favorite former boss was cleaning out her desk upon retirement and uncovered a piece of paper where she had written down every Hindi curse word I could think of, with pronunciation markers and definitions. That’s my value add right there.

Automated license plate readers, DMV records, IRS data til a judge overruled it, TSA data. It does not end. And if you think this isn’t a problem for EVERYONE, not just our neighbors without papers, oh sweet summer child.
SCOOP: The Trump administration is providing the names of all travelers passing through U.S. airports to immigration officials in search of people with deportation orders, a substantial expansion of government efforts to draw on data to hunt down immigrants.

In the conference room of the faculty development center in the university library where I worked until last week, there’s a small door to the utilities area running up the side of the building. One day last year a security guard came in, unlocked it, and left it that way, and I was so grateful.
I do this every single semester. I take my phone to the bathroom in case I need to call my loved ones. I was tenured and i've never known a time before Columbine.
Each semester I go in my classroom and I try to figure out what we would use to block the doors, if it would be safe to crawl out the windows, where we could hide if there was a mass shooter in campus. It’s such an indictment of this country how we have normalized these preventable tragedies.

Lived and worked in that county once upon a time. Can’t say this surprises me at all.
What began in the fall as a trickle of measles infections in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, has since grown into an outbreak that has sickened more than 110 people, prompted more than 250 residents to quarantine and unsettled many more.
A Measles Outbreak Brings With It Echoes of the Pandemic
In South Carolina, parents struggle to deal with infections that have brought quarantines and remote learning. Health care workers are bracing for an increase in cases.

MTG is utterly insufferable. I know she won’t actually get out of politics when she quits Congress, but hope there’s at least a substantial pause in having to hear from and about her.

LESLEY STAHL: You contributed to the toxic culture. You were out there pounding, insulting people

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: You've contributed to it as well

STAHL: I want you to respond to what you have done in terms of insulting people

MTG: I'd like for you to respond to that

Many reporters went to Albany, Georgia, when it became one of America's first COVID hotspots.

But @propublica.org's Ginger Thompson kept returning, kept reporting.

What she uncovered reveals some ugly truths about American healthcare.

Read her new 5-part series, Sick in a Hospital Town:
As Phoebe Memorial Grew, the Health of Albany, Georgia, Declined
The five-part series, “Sick in a Hospital Town,” pursues one question: Why are people in Albany so sick when its most powerful institution is a hospital?

The only explanation for this is that federal strategy is DARVO, a term describing abusive behavior: deny, attack, reverse victim offender. Oh and gaslighting.
