Black people can be Black and only Black.

The way that our full identities are dismissed is exhausting. You see it when people try to separate Black ppl from the LGBTQIA+ community. Or when it’s time to discuss ICE. Everyone understands intersectionality until it comes to us.

So a couple people have now hinted at the idea that Black people didn’t have it so bad post-9/11 because Muslims had it bad. This ignores that there were and are a lot of Black Muslims. This also ignores that more than one group of people can be targeted for state violence. It’s never just one group

I cried in class yesterday and my teacher let me sit in her office and cry and she was so sweet and supportive, and then she sent me an email last night checking in to make sure I was okay.

I’m overwhelmed with how kind that was. she didn’t make me feel like I was being dramatic or overreacting

My hot take is that none of these are structure. These are all recipes that describe structure.

Structure is the Salt, Fat, Acid Heat of writing.

3-Act/Hero's Journey etc are recipes.

You can make great meals without using a recipe if you understand the principles of structure.

This is a reminder that Highlights published a book of the letters they’ve received from children over the years. Every piece of mail they received was answered. One of my fav books.

Dear Jocelyn,
We're sorry people keep confusing you for a boy when you're dressed in your baseball clothes. We're sure that is frustrating. The good news is your self-worth and identity do not have to depend on what other people say about you. You are free to dress in baseball clothes. If people think you're a boy, try not to let it get to you.
Depending on the situation, you could either ignore it when people call you a boy, or you could politely correct them, maybe laughing it off so they don't feel bad. For example, you could laugh kindly and say,
"Oh, actually I'm a girl. It's a common mistake!" If you can act lighthearted about the situation, then it won't seem as though you are upset.
We hope this helps. Your parents may have some advice for you as well.
