🇪🇸 Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said those responsible for the destruction of Gaza must be prosecuted, stressing that “peace cannot mean forgetting.” Speaking to Spain’s largest radio network, Cadena SER, he said there should be no impunity for the main actors in the genocide that has been perpetrated in Gaza, citing ongoing ICC cases against Israeli leaders. Spain has been one of Europe’s sharpest critics of Israel’s two-year war in Gaza, with Sánchez last month explicitly calling Israel’s actions a genocide.

Guardian headline: "Young lives cut short on an unimaginable scale: the 18,457 children on Gaza’s list of war dead"

The children’s names below appear on a list of victims of Israel’s offensive in Gaza, maintained by health authorities in the territory. As of the end of July it ran to 60,199 names, of whom 18,457 were under 18s. Far from comprehensive, the list does not include the thousands still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings, as well as the war’s many indirect victims"

"In the immediate aftermath of Donald Trump’s announcement that Hamas and Israel had signed off on an agreement to stop the fighting, the Israeli military launched an arson spree, setting fire to civilian infrastructure, including the destruction of an essential sanitation plant in Gaza City."

This aerial image from the 1960s shows that the 'yellow line' of Israel's redeployment in Gaza is roughly matching with the border of the area's coastal sand dune, leaving Gaza without the absolute majority of its agricultural areas on the fertile soils in the east.

It's genuinely shocking how little of Rafah is left. An ancient city that had a pre-war population of ~200k, forced to take over 1,000,000 refugees from Gaza City and Khan Younis, then completely levelled for the crime of being the only city in Gaza with an escape route.

🔴 REPORT | Gaza Aid Still at Pre-Ceasefire Levels Despite Massive & Urgent Needs

With preparations underway to increase the flow of aid into Gaza, humanitarian deliveries remain at roughly pre-ceasefire levels, U.N.’s humanitarian agency OCHA said today. Spokesperson Olga Cherevko said a large-scale expansion is expected “imminently,” with plans to immediately assist “vulnerable groups” with food, medicine, and shelter, but noted it requires “unrestricted entry of aid” and additional crossings.

The World Food Programme said it has begun ramping up operations as the ceasefire allows international groups to return. “With full access, WFP intends to restore its regular food distribution system,” the agency said, adding that “humanitarian needs in Gaza have never been greater.” More than “170,000 metric tons of food” are ready for dispatch “via Ashdod, Egypt, Jordan, and the West Bank corridors” — enough to feed over two million people for three months — as WFP echoed calls for “unhindered humanitarian access.” Gaza’s Health Ministry urged the world to act immediately. “The world must act quickly to bring in aid, medicines, and medical supplies… any delay in this step means the loss of more lives,” said the ministry’s director general, citing the death of a child at Nasser Hospital for lack of a $2 medical item. “Continuous supply convoys are needed, along with convoys of specialized doctors and medical delegations, after more than 1,700 of our medical personnel were killed and over 360 arrested.”

Even as IDF units halt their combat operations, the ceasefire doesn't prohibit them from continuing demolition operations in the areas they still control. So within the roughly 55 percent of the strip they still control, we can expect the razing of Khan Younis, for example, to continue.

Today's ceasefire withdrawal leaves the IDF in control of a large proportion of Gaza's former urban areas (outlined in white)—all of Rafah; most of Khan Younis; Beit Hanoun; and Gaza City's Shejaiya neighborhood.

Areas where we know nearly all buildings have been demolished are shaded black.
