What does community mean to you?

I have learned so much from the wisdom, care, and determination of @stephrouth.bsky.social. There are few people as steadfast and consistent in their efforts to cultivate community, and promote understanding.

It's important, in the moment we're in now...

In response to President Trump's declaration to send troops to Portland, Governor Tina Kotek held a joint press conference yesterday in downtown Portland along with law enforcement representatives and local, county, regional, and state elected officials. www.eastportlandvoice.org/kotek-to-tru...

Bus drivers are massively under appreciated! One of my best friends is a @trimet.org driver and she has lots of crazy, heroic and scary stories... The amount of experience, knowledge, street smarts, people skills etc they need to know and be able to draw on in an instant is incredible! #Heroes
You keep great company, and your friend deserves all of the love and praise we have to offer 💛
I’m so grateful to our driver tonight, of course for saving us from a collision and giving a masterclass in de-escalation, but also for providing a tangible, and important reminder of hope during this moment we’re all navigating together.
At a time where we are faced with a relentless onslaught of tragedy, it’s important to remember that the people we share this community with are good, and when faced head on with an individual tragedy, we see the best of that goodness reveal itself.
There were a mixture of initial reactions, but through collaboration and grace, everyone ultimately expressed their appreciation for our driver and shared understanding for our fellow passenger (who seemed to be processing what I can only imagine was a pretty hard hit to the head)
Our driver worked diligently to check in with them, and with the help of another community member, de-escalated what was becoming a tense interaction, providing space for that passenger to process and time for medical professionals to arrive and offer support.
A car appeared to run a red light, and to avoid a collision our driver had to break suddenly.

Unfortunately, another passenger seemed to have hit their head pretty hard as a result. They were understandably dazed and pretty frustrated.
Our Trimet bus drivers truly are the unsung heroes of our community and I feel extra compelled to share my appreciation because of what I saw on my ride home tonight.

Representative Hoa Nguyen was the only legislator I lobbied who stepped off the house floor to meet with undocumented immigrants who had driven hours to support Food For All Oregonians. She took time to know them and fight for them. I’ll always remember that interaction.

May she rest in peace.

I know it feels pretty scary right now, but Trump is increasingly unmoored and desperate. That’s an indication of weakness, not strength. We are the ones with strength. The chicken guy has a sign that reads, “We will outlast Trump” and he’s right.

Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

It was maybe the wildest week in Portland news since Damian Lillard hit The Shot, and this story understandably flew under the radar. But if you're interested in what could happen when 1/3 of city councilors are, ahem, socialists, look no further than a recently closed Gateway Fred Meyer.

It was a watercolor weekend in this beautiful state, the only things on fire are the leaves on some trees and it would be really cool if the news could chill so we could all enjoy Oregon’s best season.

im not sure why everyone is so upset about the nyt article

i mean if i were to write a piece characterizing the broader political dynamics nationally and wanted an “on the ground” perspective i couldn’t think of two better people to ask than mark zuckerberg and james carville

The empire is not insurmountable. They rely on posturing but they’re highly disorganized and fragmented.

We are going to win.

My immigrant parent delivered white glove hospitality during visitor stays at a five star hotel, ran a restaurant where business deals were closed, and worked late into the night to start it all over again the next day. How this labor is viewed as a drain on US resources and culture is beyond me.

Portland will not bend to Trumpism. We will not be shocked into compliance with his overtly racist, and violent attacks on our most vulnerable neighbors. We must get organized and refuse to allow his authoritarianism to be normalized in our city. Use your voice, be smart and safe, and stand strong.
