There are still a number of dream lists open for youth in foster care in the Portland area that could use your sponsorship: www.project48.co/programs/hol...

Will you join me in adopting a foster teen and fulfil their dream list?

The group chat asked for holiday movie recommendations of any quality. Here's mine in no particular order:

What's yours?

Took my senior black cat to the vet today so that's the big ticket spending on this Black Friday.

Further took advantage of working on a holiday week in the office downtown to grab happy hour at a downtown hotel bar. The vibes are great right now with all the festive decor, good service and right before the holiday rush of visitors.

Did people forget how manual revolving doors work? You enter from opposing entrances, push, and we'll both revolve to the respective exit that we need. Came upon not one but two instances at the same revolving door and had to show someone how they worked (?!?).

I took advantage of forgetting to pack a lunch this morning to check out the new cafe, Coquelico, in the freshly opened Portland Art Museum. It's busy, quite popular on this holiday week, and I look forward to dining on the outdoor patio during warmer and sunnier days.

Real ones know you never really quit, you just experience days when a cigarette is truly the best feeling temporary solution.

It's a holiday week, I'm at the office and deeply tired already and now I understand the appeal of a single cigarette and a stiff beverage because that's all I want 7 hours from now.

No better feeling than getting on a bus at an off peak time with a driver who is motivated to - and there truly isn't a better way to put it - haul ass.

In terms of personal impact, the worst part of my 30+ hour airline travel saga this past weekend was having to wear compression socks the entire time.

Can we agree that November 1 is far too early for Christmas music?

Happy to mainstream the most complex of all kinship systems, the Chinese 亲属系统 in which there is a specific designation for almost every member's kin based on their generation, lineage, relative age, and gender. Family gatherings are a memorization exercise.

Auntie/Uncle works just fine, y'all. 🙄

Feeding America has a page where you can input your zip code and it'll show you all of the food banks near you overlaid on a map. If you need it, it's there. If you don't need it, think about donating money if you have it and your time if you don't.

I already see shoppers in my area WinCo putting items back at the register they can't afford on SNAP allocations. I already have dolled out dollars from my own wallet when this happens. I fear empty markets and no Sunday evening rush at the check out line when folks lose SNAP and are going without.

757,000 Oregon residents who receive assistance through SNAP could lose this needed resource for November if the federal government shutdown persists.

This would impact over 143,000 SNAP participants in Multnomah County, and the shoppers at my neighborhood market.

Soggy neighborhood farmers market this morning, overhearing more than one conversation amongst shoppers about the impending loss of SNAP benefits and how they were strategically spending their dollars accordingly.

This market offers a SNAP cash match, doubling shoppers bucks.

I can always recall having enough food at home but it wasn't until I was much older that I learned how many times my parents went without a meal during the toughest times.

Many of our neighbors will be facing food insecurity this winter. Money can be more useful for food banks than food, but there are many tasks to fill like delivering meals and boxes, serving hot meals and making bagged sandwiches. Ask around and see how you can help.

Gen Z door kid at the new underground music venue just told me my jacket is 'so sick' so basically I'll be riding on that confidence boost for a few days.

If anyone asks me for my papers, I'll show my birth certificate which lists my mother's nationality as "Remainder World" because geopolitical contexts are not arbitrary but borders are.

St Vincent re-recorded her most recent album in Spanish, Todos Nacen Gritando, to pay tribute to her fan base in Latin America. It's fantastic and I can't believe I'm a year late from its release to enjoy it.
