In one sense, it doesn't seem to be working. But I do feel seen.

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

THIS. I grew up in Portland, co-founded the umbrella organization (called "Umbrella") that fiscally sponsors world naked bike ride and other street culture groups/projects, and have dressed in more costumes for public good than I can count. I'm also chair of the planning commission. Only in PDX.

I am praying over my Trailhead Coffee that some video-savvy Portlander will commemorate Noem's visit with a reduxed version of the John Wick opening, in which Noem kills his puppy.

Apropos of nothing, Sec. Kristi Noem is currently praying over Burgerville with Portland ICE officials.
A screenshot of a video of Noem praying at a conference table with other people wearing suits. Fast food bags and water bottles sit on the table.

He likes to yell right up into my face every time he sees me with a list of grievances that are easily disproven. But facts are inconvenient, apparently.

The president said, in a televised speech, that he's sending his new, less restrained, more violent military into US cities to practice their brutality on immigrants and minorities, to better train them to apply that brutality to other countries.

He said this out loud.

Yeah. I think the initial poke-back at the "war-ravaged" frame was important, but now it's time to shift to talking about where resources should *actually* go, which is housing and supporting people's basic needs, not invading, terrorizing, detaining, bombing, and starving people, here and abroad.

Christian, it is such an honor and joy to know you. This is... overwhelming kindness. ❤️😭🌈

For example, here is an easy breezy medical power of attorney form. This is the person you would choose to make health care decisions if you were unable to articulate them yourself. www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/ABOUT...

Dear fellow Portlanders, this is an occasional reminder that I am a notary public and waive all fees as a community service. Love y'all. 💓

IN THE USA…

Anderson Cooper: So it's more expensive to have a chronically homeless person living on the streets than it is to actually subsidize an apartment for them?

Answer: Yes, we’re paying more as taxpayers to walk past that person on the street and do nothing…

Unanimous! While I've advised on many resolutions/ordinances, the Vision Zero Resolution was the first one I actually drafted. Awesome community and staff partnership. Stewarded by the incomparable, collaborative leadership of @councilortkl.bsky.social. Remarkable. bikeportland.org/2025/09/18/w...

I refused to placate the bully. Then I refused to placate the institutions who placated the bully. Then I refused to placate the shills who placate the institutions who placate the bully. I'm still standing; the rest are down.

Never placate the bully.
