Yes, Trump really has built up specific powers that genuinely no other politician has.

He spouts so much drivel that a lot of voters will hear him say "Im going to crush the poor beneath my boot" and think hes a hilarious prankster
Seriously. The speed with which WaPo has annihilated itself has surprised me. And despite glaring red alarms telling them theyre on the wrong track, they just keep pushing forward!
Sounds like someone is jealous that their name is Sean Caroll and not Sean Zzaroll
Rooting against the SF Giants means you hate Asians

This is why Giants/Dodgers rivalry is so heated: its a constant battle for minority supremacy
Also, as a progressive-leaning Dem myself: if "conservative" means "I want to preserve our Democracy and rule of law, and not descend into aithoritarianism," then count me as a conservative too.
The Biden economy can strike at any time -- whenever GDP growth lags, whenever unemployment rises, whenever inflation ticks up, Biden will be there, secretly pulling the levers from behind the curtain
Seems plausible, thanks Rose! However, it does position AI companies well for the future, as one can imagine a "search mode" or something that functions like a search engine being implemented later on if/when market share reaches critical mass.

AI search is 5.6% of search traffic rn and has grown 126% yoy. 98% of chatGPT users still use google. They just route by query type now: LLMs handle more research/complex q's, search handles more transactional/navigational searches. Seems more like a behavioral split and not direct replacement.

No, that’s exactly what it means
I think this can be generalized outside of social media -- so many of the criticisms of cancel culture boiled down to "my friends dont like me anymore because of the things I say and believe," as if people are legally required to like you and hang with you
There was a Free Press article a week or two ago reviving cancel culture debate and the central anecdote was that thr writer's friends had stopped talking to her because of her opinions

I cant think of a more self centered view than "You must like me, no matter what I say or believe"

Its also odd because capitalist societies tend to be the ones embracing the "let a thousand flowers bloom" strategy, but if anything its the reverse right now: China investing broadly, US all in on exactly one technology.
I do think its interesting because it does lean into something that others have noticed: the US is just all in on AI, to the point where other innovations are deeply suffering. China is crushing on EVs, Solar, Wind, Batteries, etc.

Usually betting so hard on a single innovation is bad!
Me: women aren't suited for executive roles. They lack the will of the warrior that executive positions require

[A million people tell me im stupid and explain why im wrong]

Me: oh ho! I see that the thought police cant handle my radical, smart opinions with their puny snowflake brains
Whenever people complain about "the thought police," I want to ask them how they distinguish between some top-down ideological enforcement and "actually you're just wrong and dumb and people are telling you so."
Good article, Derek.

I'd love to see analysis of the difference between short form and long form video: I suspect they hit different, but as you note at the end, I cant explain why precisely

"All video" is bad, but "and the video must be 30-60 seconds long" is much worse. At least I think!
This... does not seem like a balanced roundtable with the full spectrum of opinions.

We really hit on something with the 12 year old theory of governance because that’s really the entire political project. It’s being 12 years old and not even normal 12 year olds but real pieces of shit 12 year olds
I think this is fair, but the counter-counterargument is that a huge chunk of replies are saying dont know, which seems pretty common for an out party that doesn't have a singular, coherent stance on a lot of issues right now.

White people hate being called racist more than they hate racism

After World War II, countless Nazis became prisoners of war—utterly defeated.

And yet, even then, America gave them due process.

Liberals will never abandon the rule of law.

Not even for the most abhorrent, evil people among us.

Not then. Not now. Not ever.
