The inherent corollary of "this is murder" is that we prosecute and punish people who commit murder.

Trump just bombed six more people in the Caribbean, for a total of 27 civilians who have been killed so far by the US military. It’s illegal for the military to target civilians who do not pose an immediate threat. This is murder.

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

Working on a reported essay on inflammation rhetoric espoused by MAHA etc, and it's hitting me how much this harms chronically ill people, both for putting blame on ourselves for being sick and clinging to pseudoscience sometimes out of desperation.

More and more Americans are literally being forced to use GoFundMe to survive.

So what are Donald Trump and the Republicans doing to help?

Ripping away families' health care and jacking up insurance premiums to pay for giant tax handouts for their billionaire buddies.

The medication stockpile bill is the bill I had pegged this year as the most important kind of bill to pass given federal threats, with a short time window to make it happen. Washington passed the same bill earlier this year.

It's so shameful for Newsom to veto this bill.

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

🇪🇸 Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said those responsible for the destruction of Gaza must be prosecuted, stressing that “peace cannot mean forgetting.” Speaking to Spain’s largest radio network, Cadena SER, he said there should be no impunity for the main actors in the genocide that has been perpetrated in Gaza, citing ongoing ICC cases against Israeli leaders. Spain has been one of Europe’s sharpest critics of Israel’s two-year war in Gaza, with Sánchez last month explicitly calling Israel’s actions a genocide.

In 2020 we published in TIME about the $50 trillion upward redistribution of income since 1975. The editors told us it was one of their most widely read online pieces ever, and begged us for more. Four years later we pitched an update ($79 trillion)—they weren't interested.
