this spun me out too... the threat of denaturalization and deportation for *anyone* not considered a "net asset" ... like what does that mean? if someone's approval rating is lower than like 40% we ship them to some other country?

There was nothing the shooter did to improve the plight of Afghani asylum-seekers in the US. It was revenge, and acting out in a familiar, violent, way.
He was aiming at the top, and a couple folks in camo stopped him. If it was capitol police, the same might have happened. Violence begets.

If I'm understanding this correctly, the man who shot two national guards in DC was a former Afghan child soldier who fought alongside US special forces and in a CIA-supervised unit and later was granted asylum. The word "blowback" comes to mind.
