"I once met a former bodyguard of one billionaire with his own "bunker", who told me his security team's first priority, if this really did happen, would be to eliminate said boss and get in the bunker themselves. And he didn't seem to be joking."
Tech billionaires seem to be doom prepping. Should we be worried?

Added some $RVT too. It's also trading at a nice discount to NAV.

Remind me, do taxpayers pay the president’s salary or does the president pay ours? Do we work for the president or does he work for us?

Another unique and interesting overview from Nathan.

"It is interesting how brazen the Trump administration has been in not honoring congressional orders to spend while being relatively circumspect and legalistic regarding spending without appropriations."

Took some divs from the preferred $XOMAP, which I liquidated after ex-date, and put them into the CEF $USA, which is trading at a nice discount to NAV.

I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep saying it over and over again: a farmer bailout won’t do much of anything because the market is gone. There will be no incentive to plant next year.

The bailout will help payoff farmer debt to the banks. That’s all.

If only there were people who could go around and find out what the reality is, and then perhaps report on it back to everyone. They could even publish their reporting in print or online, and possibly even make a business out of keeping folk informed about what's happening in the world. If only.

I don't know if there's such a thing as a "world cyberwar" but I think we are in one? and the US is determined to lose it. 🧵

Today the admin is mass-firing the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the nation's cybersecurity protection across all levels of government.

It appears that the federal agents occupying Portland have people embedded with them charged with the task of producing stories presenting the government’s version of events. Ironically, this was the sort of work JD Vance did in Iraq before he decided he was against that war.

Federal officers were flanked by videographers, toting professional equipment and wearing high-visibility vests.
They filmed from behind the lines of officers, capturing the show of force. At least two drones swept over the scenes.

Trump and the right wing bullshit machine working in high gear to motivate and justify a (potentially violent) federal response to unrest that is largely a figment of their imagination and (where it is real) a reaction to federal agitation. A vicious, intentional, and intensifying cycle.

Trump: Portland is burning to the ground—insurrectionists all over the place. The politicians are afraid for their lives. That’s the only reason they say there’s nothing happening.

Not only does this story get a number of basic facts wrong, it doesn’t take time to actually explore why Portlanders elected these folks. Coming in with a pre-baked PDX story to fit a NYT narrative about NYC is harmful, especially at this moment.

Important to remember that stories about children killed by vaccine-preventable diseases when they're too young to be vaccinated are, beneath that, stories about the loss of herd immunity.

This baby caught whooping cough from somebody. That somebody was probably old enough to be vaccinated.

“A lot of times, you know, babies don’t cough; they just stop breathing,” warned Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Dan Edney as he discussed Mississippi's first infant death from whooping cough in 13 years.
Mississippi Baby Dies of Whooping Cough Amid Rising Cases
A baby in Mississippi has died of whooping cough for the first time since 2012. The baby was less than two months old—too young for vaccination.

Bari Weiss is set to be named the editor in chief of CBS News, the New York Post reports
Paramount Skydance is poised to name Bari Weiss as editor in chief of CBS News in the coming days — giving the hard-charging journalist unusual clout to revamp the struggling network as it also acquires her scrappy news site the Free Press, The Post has learned.

Weiss — a 41-year-old former New York Times opinion writer who has built the Free Press into a buzzworthy site with a contrarian bent — is expected to be named to the top post in a Monday announcement, although the talks are in flux and the timing could change, a source close to the situation said.

"I'll just go use official force to coercively raise my own revenue (a/k/a taxes!) and then spend it on whatever government stuff I decide I want to do" is complete and total executive tyranny, Congress reduced to nothing but a powerless sham legislature, a head of state with absolute power.
