Crows fascinate me. They use to roost in Union Bay near my house, but switched to Bothell a few years ago. Now they use Union Bay as a staging post. They vary staging posts to avoid/confuse predators. Smart birds.🦅

Every evening the crows of Seattle gather at various staging areas before flying en masse to the North Creek Wetland on the UW Bothell campus where 10,000 - 15,000 roost for the night. This evening they staged around my house, hundreds of them. Every tree, rooftop and telegraph wire was packed.

Gold price have surged to record highs since Trump took office. Since gold is a hedge against economic uncertainty, this suggests that institutions see significant downside risks in the global economy going forward. Concern over the stability of the US dollar probably a major factor here.

Yes but those are “radical liberal” Jews, so in the eyes of our Authoritarian Administration, they don’t count. Besides, the Administration doesn’t really care about antisemitism, it’s jus a convenient stick that they can use to beat up liberal people and institutions.

It already is. Trump destroys everything he touches. He has already blown up the international trade system, painstakingly built over 75 years. Gone in 6 months and we are back to tariff barriers not seen since the Great Depression.

Remarkably low fertility rate in Seattle in 2024, with the total fertility rate hitting 1.085 (a TFR of 2.1 is needed for stable population). Inward migration will counteract this, but maybe by enough to keep the city growing?

I hope it's clear to everyone now that Trump really is going for it - he's trying to become a dictator. I don't know if he'll succeed, but he's working to install himself as an autocrat unaccountable to voters. And he's weaponizing the military against Americans who oppose him as part of that effort
