Just watched the 1971 film "The Murder of Fred Hampton." It includes some incredible footage of Hampton and the Black Panthers - it was originally a supposed to be a doc about Hampton and the Panthers, and then midway through production he was murdered by the FBI and CPD. VERY recommended.

We probably don't know the full count of all the people CPB and ICE has murdered just in the past year. We do know that there's another form of murder our border policy commits - the "slow murder" of forcing people to go through such brutality just to get here. borderland.skylight.is

When ICE is gone, CPB and DHS should next. Followed by local police. We have built ourselves a militarized apparatus accountable to no one. It may seem scary to imagine a world without police, but hopefully people can finally see how scary it is now with a world full of them.

It's -20 in Minneapolis and organizers are in the streets before dawn getting ready for actions related to the general strike. They've had locals training out-of-town volunteers on how to prepare for and endure the cold. AND IT IS WORKING. THE STRIKE IS HAPPENING. THE CITY IS DOING THE DAMN THING...

Spicy-hot take: all directors are forbidden from using center framing for one year unless it does something important for the story. No push in on someone in the exact middle of the frame looking portentiously away or toward camera, no top-down Busby-Berkely style hyper-choreographed shot

The US Federal Government is occupying Minnesota.
The IDF is killing Palestinians during a "ceasefire."
The Army invaded a foreign country that had not done anything to us and kidnapped its president.
These are not disconnected events, but part of the larger project of empire.

New — I wrote about ChongLy Scott Thao, the elderly Hmong American wrongly arrested and forced out of his home by ICE in his underwear during the punishing Minnesota winter, what witnesses saw, and DHS's racist claim that he fit the description of another Asian man they were looking for.

My story:
Behind the disturbing image of ICE snatching a half-naked, elderly Hmong American from his home
DHS has claimed without evidence that they were looking for someone else when they took ChongLy Scott Thao.

this crystallizes why, despite truly heroic solidarity and activism, i can’t quite get in the “we’re going to win” mindset right now. the harm is so active and there’s so much violence we don’t even know about. people are being turned into ghosts.

My hope is that the tweens who are digging "KPop Demon Hunters" now rediscover "Sense8" when they're a little older. Both are committed to the idea that creating community and connection is the way to build a better world.

Okay, so my big complaint about Plur1bus? Why isn't Kusimayu, the Quechua woman, the protagonist? The Quechua have been fighting colonization for centuries (look up the Peruvian forced sterilization plan for a recent example). Would she not recognize this as a "kinder" version of the same?

Finished Stranger Things and it... Wasn't bad. But dear lordy it could have had about half the dialog and still been just as effective if not moreso. And I'm angry about one thing from the last episode but I'll wait on it because I don't want to give spoilers.

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.
January 10, 2026 at 3:24 PM
My sincere hope is that out of all this, people start to consider police/prison abolition more seriously. ICE/CBP/DHS is brutal but not exceptional.
January 9, 2026 at 5:07 PM
ICE, CBP and DHS has always been about instilling terror. It's just become more overt now.
Meanwhile near where they killed Renee Good ICE was terrorizing a high school — and now Minneapolis has canceled school for the week.

None of this is about safety. A lawless regime with no guardrails.
