Just watched the 1971 film "The Murder of Fred Hampton." It includes some incredible footage of Hampton and the Black Panthers - it was originally a supposed to be a doc about Hampton and the Panthers, and then midway through production he was murdered by the FBI and CPD. VERY recommended.

When ICE is gone, CPB and DHS should next. Followed by local police. We have built ourselves a militarized apparatus accountable to no one. It may seem scary to imagine a world without police, but hopefully people can finally see how scary it is now with a world full of them.

this crystallizes why, despite truly heroic solidarity and activism, i can’t quite get in the “we’re going to win” mindset right now. the harm is so active and there’s so much violence we don’t even know about. people are being turned into ghosts.

My hope is that the tweens who are digging "KPop Demon Hunters" now rediscover "Sense8" when they're a little older. Both are committed to the idea that creating community and connection is the way to build a better world.

Okay, so my big complaint about Plur1bus? Why isn't Kusimayu, the Quechua woman, the protagonist? The Quechua have been fighting colonization for centuries (look up the Peruvian forced sterilization plan for a recent example). Would she not recognize this as a "kinder" version of the same?

Well everything sucks, but sometimes it doesn't! Supertalented Melissa Leo mentions an indie film she worked on, "Racing Daylight" as one of her favorite roles. Finished Stranger Things and it... Wasn't bad. But dear lordy it could have had about half the dialog and still been just as effective if not moreso. And I'm angry about one thing from the last episode but I'll wait on it because I don't want to give spoilers.

My sincere hope is that out of all this, people start to consider police/prison abolition more seriously. ICE/CBP/DHS is brutal but not exceptional.

Meanwhile near where they killed Renee Good ICE was terrorizing a high school — and now Minneapolis has canceled school for the week.
