Yeah the "save the cattification" of novels and critique has been corrosive.

Maya Wiley was right there, guys, and too many folks decided that a cop Republican was the right move. You got what you paid for. Unfortunately, so did the rest of us who live here.

Amazing film. Saw it in a half empty theater and it was emptier when it finished. People went in expecting a more trad "80s horror sendup" I guess. Love the experimentation, all the visuals, the refusal to have a character sit down and exposition me to death... Cosmatos should've directed Inception

How are you finding it?

What happens in the transporter in Star Trek is that Gene Rodenberry appears, smiles at the SFX money he's just saved vs doing a miniature model shoot, then two PAs throw you thru a wormhole and you land on the other side wherever you were supposed to go

I was kinda hoping for Picnic at Hanging Rock vibe ... still a good movie though.

The only thing I'd ever ask my grandmothers (I'm dead sure there's safety deposit boxes somewhere, or a box buried in a yard):

Just reading the reviews and it sounds awesome. Just saw Weapons and it was a tad disappointing.

That's beautiful. Also an interesting "random" moment - I'm writing a sci-fi story about elephants.

Still reading through "Elephants: Behavior and Conservation" by Shermin de Silva. Thought I'd be done by now, but it's a little denser than I thought. Still very good though. Getting to the good stuff (how do elephants perceive/think about the environment?).

Interesting distinction btw facing the audience and speaking specifically TO the camera (breaking the 4th wall). Ozu's characters often looked straight on, but he was trying to involve the audience in the lives of the characters. Richard, Titus, Fleabag, Apocalypse Now (audience)

It gets a little old but I just got used to it.
