Make the most of Sunday's sunshine.

Most of next week looks to be lacking in sunshine (maybe some inversions) and dry as the high pressure traps in a lot of cloud.

This image captured from #MeteorM2_4 shows how extensive the cloud has been across the southern half of the UK this afternoon. This low cloud is trapped under a warm layer inversion beneath high pressure.

WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY: Cloudy, light winds & cooler. 13°C

Very much a borefest for now.

Cloud thick enough in places for drizzle this morning. That's the most rainfall we will see this week.

MONDAY

A disappointing day overall with plenty of cloud about and just a few bright spells here and there especially in the north. Light winds once again, so if you do see any bright spells or sunshine it will be pleasant.

One of those days when air sinks/ warms adiabatically under the influence of high pressure, creating an inversion..rise in temp with height

Cloud trapped under the inversion giving a chilly day some low lying parts

Places in/above the inversion, eg hills, seeing warm sunshine

Misty conditions for most with some clear skies clinging on in some spots until later in the night. Not as cold as last night where locally we saw 3°C. Light winds.

After a wet start to October we've had little rainfall over the last week and there's unlikely to be any measurable rainfall over the next 7-10 days as well, as high pressure keeps rain-bearing weather-fronts at bay.
