The fix is easy. Make cup games worth more, pool wins worth a couple points in the standings, and finals and cup championships worth 3-5 more so teams can rest after. Drop the regular season by at least ten games, but make cup wins worth enough to get to theoretically get to 82 possible wins/points.
New for @theathletic.com - yes, I'm a big fan of the NBA Cup, but I'm also worried it's asking way too much of everyone schedule-wise. The evidence is hard to ignore:

He doesn't have the same ability to defend in space, but Jay Huff has brought a similar skill set to Myles Turner when it comes to spot up threes and blocks.
