[osrs] got my sloop upgraded with a salvaging station and two hooks, so now I don't even have to go back to town while I'm salvaging. so I just chill and do this while I watch streams and read books. to me, this is relaxation c:

Engagement KPIs have been responsible for infinite scroll UI traps, RecSys radicalization spirals, public shame brigades, and basically every modern ailment novel to the past decade. At some point, you have to recognize that the problem isn't any one technology, it's the metric.
The company essentially turned a dial that made ChatGPT more appealing and made people use it more, but sent some of them into delusional spirals.
OpenAI has since made the chatbot safer, but that comes with a tradeoff: less usage.

After "film trilogy that dropped a critical plot point exclusively via timed Fortnite event" and "video game series whose story only makes sense if you're aware of the events of a canon pachinko machine", I feel like there are whole frontiers of user-hostile narrative design waiting to be explored.

every time I see people whining about the internet and single points of failure and “remember when” I laugh and LAUGH. folks. did you know that at one point sufficient rain in northern Virginia could take half the internet down? the infrastructure is way more robust and resilient than it used to be.

I feel like everything has stymied me today. just now the cherry on top, which was me finally getting the courage to queue into a ranked match in mahjong soul for the first time ever, only for the game to go into maintenance for the next ~6 hours. 🥲
