I’m walking the streets in search of something, anything before darkness wins its daily battle.

Just before the sun disappears for the night, it paints the uninspired mortar with magic.

Old and tired can still radiate beauty - if we choose to look.

OpenAI just unveiled Atlas, its own web browser — taking on Google Chrome.

Launching first on Apple laptops, Atlas will expand to Windows, iPhone, and Android. As users turn to AI for answers, this could reshape how we browse.

Canada wakes up happy after the Toronto Blue Jays 7th game, come-from-behind 4-3 ALCS series win over the Seattle Mariners. In doing so, they punch their World Series ticket for the first time in 32 years.

Somehow, it feels like it’s now more than just a game.

Winter will be here soon enough. So for now we throw a leg over the bike and ride it to places that bring us joy.

What matters isn’t where we’re going. What matters is that we set off at all, and stop along the way to remember how it feels.

On our most recent trip to Montreal, we visited the cemetery

My father-in-law always enjoyed whenever I stuck my lens in his face, often asking quietly afterward to review the results.

I imagine he’d have found this one amusing, as well.

From the outside in, we’ll never know what goes on behind each of these windows.

Which is as it should be. We all deserve our privacy, after all.

Yet they still invite us to appreciate strangers navigating their lives quietly amid spaces they call their own.

There are 26 dog sculptures in this fountain, all staring at a bone high up in the middle.

There are also 2 cats and 2 birds - and the cat here is looking at the birds.

A subtle reminder, perhaps, to follow our instincts, and not the crowd.

There’s a spot deep in the woods where the thick tree cover opens up to a riverside clearing. I’ll occasionally stop and listen to the lazily flowing water, and stare at the reflected canopy growing out of the opposite bank.

We should all have a place like this.

Sometimes I’ll wander over to the edge of the beach and watch the dune grasses sway in the breeze.

I can’t help but think that they’re trying to tell me - and all of us - something.

Precisely what is that? I’ll leave that one up to you…

I got lost in the woods yesterday, so the setting sun reached out of the western sky to find me and point me toward home.

This life thing, like water from a fountain, can be messy, unpredictable, or hard to understand.

I can’t explain the physics of this captured moment. But I can appreciate it all the same, and feel lucky that I was there to witness it at all.

It seemed amusing to me that the very epicentre of Canada’s financial district was virtually empty in the midst of the morning rush.

Familiar places doing unfamiliar things. That’s a thing, apparently.

If I’m being blunt, autumn’s been a bit of a bust so far here in the Great White North.

Yet I’m still taking walks in the woods, looking for the ignored.

Because every colour is worthy in its own way.

Maybe the leaves are trying to teach us a lesson.

Icons don’t always show themselves directly. Sometimes they hide behind blind corners and peek out when we’re ready to see them.

We’re speeding down the highway toward the big city. The sun won’t rise for another 18 minutes, but already the sky beckons the farms below.

It doesn’t need to, because the farmers have already been at it for hours, quietly working the earth so the rest of us can eat.

Protector of the forest. Protector of us all.

The world is a dark place, especially today.

So if we do anything today and every day, let’s be the light.

It vanquishes the darkness.

If we allow it.
I’ll remember this one more for how it was captured than for how it looks.

Skittering on my back in the grass, looking for the absolute centre.

Cycling away afterward, the breeze grabbing the dried blades of grass from my clothes, scattering them behind.

Every time we return here, I want at least one memory of standing in the sand and feeling the warm wind in my face, of what it sounds and smells like.

And if the only way to get the shot is to sneak into the reflection, so be it.

What was once a fast-flowing stretch of water is now a wide expanse of exposed rocks just begging for a little exploration.

Calli the Wonderschnauzer tugs at the leash, drawn no doubt by the smells of the riverbed. I’m happy to follow her lead.

It only looks forgettable.

In reality, there’s a story here, a history of what was made, who made it, and how their lives played out, day after day, year after year.

Standing on the outside looking in, one can almost make out the echoes of a now vanished past.

I take a lot of silly pics. Ordinary things in an ordinary life. Boring, even.

Perhaps the world doesn’t need yet another photo of eggs. But that’s not the point.

Putting the planet on hold so we can escape into light and composition.

That’s the point.

I deliberately disobeyed the sign in order to take this photo.

The Canadian in me feels the need to apologize.

They’re slicks. All good.
If I’m not answering my phone right now, it’s because I’m out in the middle of nowhere seeing how dirty I can get my tires.

From the looks of it, I’m succeeding.
