Tall, cinema-obsessed, comic book-reading, beer-swilling, rock'n'roll-loving, happily married father of the world's cutest/snarkiest nineteen-year-old.
Pour one out for the Patrician, an old favourite for lunch when I worked on King West. Not many diners left in the city!

Happy New Year! I watched a lot of movies in 2025, no doubt in part because I've been unemployed since Febrary. Still catching up on some recent releases, but for now, here are my favourite new films from 2025: letterboxd.com/captfuzz/lis...
Top Seen 2025
My favourite new films seen in 2025 (and early 2026, if the American release date was 2025). A work in progress. Expect it to finalize some time in February.

What was the last movie or tv show you watched in 2025?

(Spending the holidays in London and finally had the opportunity to check out the game/panel show Taskmaster in our downtime. Equal parts bonkers and fiendish, highly enjoyable.)

Whenever my birthday rolls around, I always think of Dick Van Dyke since we share the same birthday. Happy 100th!Then I think of the long lost Hamilton punk band The Dik Van Dykes and this song in particular: youtu.be/36cQb0kiZUw?...

For your amusement, the Julien's "Hollywood Legends" auction includes Crow and Tom Servo puppets from Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Hollywood Legends? Sure, why not.

Two Udo Kier memories.
1) Watching him harangue a poor Bloor Cinema employee who had the temerity to cut his microphone off when his interview went way over-time.
2) Locking eyes with him at the Yonge & Dundas cinema and feeling a cold chill run down my spine.
As big in life as on the screen.

Tonight's outing: The Saints '73-'78 at the Phoenix, original Saints members Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay joined by Mudhoney's Mark Arm (on vocals, a very good choice to stand in for the late Chris Bailey), Peter Oxley, former Bad Seed Mick Harvey and even a horn section. Loud & raucous!

Crossed a new milestone in my life yesterday, first time applying for pogey. (Related: if anyone has a line on a job for a seasoned software developer with experience in web UI development and data visualization, please send it my way.)

post a perfect album from 1989 that somehow didn’t make it into @bestalbumbrackets.bsky.social

Also 100% agree with the post quoted.

Tonight’s outing - the Miki Berenyi Trio at The Great Hall! You may remember Miki from the great shoegaze/dreampop band Lush, and MB3 definitely recall the dreamier side of that band’s sound, all shimmering guitars and ethereal vocals.

If you see this, quote with an image from a game that released the year you were born.

(Have never, ever seen this game before, but it does look very much like a product from 1967.)

Tonight's outing: Stereolab (first time!) at the Danforth Music Hall. Neglected to listen to the new album, which dominated the setlist, but didn't really matter because I respond to the band's overall vibe more than any specific song, perfect for getting lost in the groove. Good show for that!

@letterboxd.social Selecting the Import button on a list no longer does anything for me. Just earlier today it would bring up a file selector to select the file I wanted to import. Did something change?

Tonight's outing: Sparks at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Fun, high energy show, though I had the best time when I was in familiar territory, namely the opening song and the final third of the show.

TIFF is barely over and I have a pile of concerts to see over the next couple of weeks. Tonight: Pulp at the Budweiser Stage! I forgot how well Pulp works at scale, Jarvis' arch theatricality and the music's dynamic grandeur cry out for a large stage. Beautiful night for it too. I am aglow.
